Windows 7 - Acronis etc. "has stopped working" Windows will attempt to find a solution

Thread needs solution

I have installed the trial version of Acronis True Image Home 2010. When I try it run it, it does the initialization, then stops with the above error message. Interestingly, Windows can't create a system restore disk, although it can create a system image on an external drive. I don't know if this is related.

With that message on display, if you bring up Task Manager (Windows button + shift + esc) you can then right click on the program entry and create a dump file (Assuming you are using W7).

Do you have any flagged errors in Windows Event Manager (right click My Computer/choose Manage)?

I'm a little confused, you say it stops at initialisation and yet you can create an image. Could you go through exactly what you do which either works or doesn't work.

Does it hang at the splash screen?

Check that in MSCONFIG the following startup files are ticked.

scheduler2
schedlhlp

In services:

RPC Server (Microsoft service) is auto and running
AcrSch2Svc
TrueimageMonitor
AFCDPSRV - this is the NSB service - you could stop this service and set it to manual and see if this is interfering with anything.
Timounter- this may or may not show up in MSCONFIG or Services.

It might also be worth checking to see if TI program has installed itself with the wrong credentials - right click on the desktop icon, choose properties.

On the Security tab - check that your log on has full permissions = everything ticked.
On the Compatability tab check that only Run as Admin is ticked.

Go to the program itself and double check the above.

Check also that you have the latest video drivers for your system especially if using an nVidia card.

Hello Brendan and Colin,

I'm sorry for the delayed response in this thread.

Let me assist you with this situation.

Colin, thank you very much for your suggestions! They are absolutely correct. Brendan, have you followed them, what are the results?

Generally, this situation (crash) can be caused by incorrect product installation also. So I would like to add the following to the recommendations above:

- Completely uninstall the product from your system (via Add or RemovePrograms option in Windows Control Panel)

- Install the product again

Also, could you please clarify, when exactly does the product crash? Could you please make screenshot with the error and send it to us?

If you are not familiar with making screen shots, please read the below step-by-step instructions.

- Get to the window which you want to make a screen shot of;
- Hit the (Alt+)PrintScreen button on your keyboard;
- Run Paint usually available in Start\Programs\Accessories or another graphics application;
- Choose Paste command in Edit menu;
- Save the result picture in JPEG format being preferable.

Please feel free to ask me if something is not clear for you in the instructions.

Best regards,
