True Image 2012 does not run on Windows 7 x86
Once again the latest and greatest updated new version of True Image Home 2012 #6514 does not work. I can't even get the program to run. Although it starts normally as soon as I attempt to do anything the program crashes and displays the Windows close program option.
What is that all about? I purchased two copies of the software as well as Plus Packs for each at the end of October. I have yet to get the product to work! Does anyone know the meaning of refund at Acronis?

Does anyone know the meaning of refund at Acronis?
If you ever find out - let me know. ! I want one as well. Product sucks on Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with a quad core.

Try to uninstall 2012. Then prepare a clean boot environment (use msconfig to disable all non microsoft services and startup items). Reboot. Reinstall 2012. Verify it is working correctly. If yes, restore your previous msconfig.

I want a program that doesn't require that sort of nonsense! If that is what is required to install True Image 2012, why doesn't the installer program do that or at least tell you that you need to do that?

Good points David! Imaging software is very often tricky to install because it relies on low-level drivers. This is not an excuse, just a statement. By using a clean boot environment, you minimize the risk of conflict with whatever else is running on / protecting /optimizing your computer.

Alright, I went ahead and followed your advice about the clean boot environment and am happy to report that Windows no longer crashes when I start up ATIH2012. Unfortunately, what crashes now is ATIH2012 itself!

Well, as you know, when this kind of error in a clean boot environment, you might be looking at some DLL compatibility issues. Only Acronis support can help you, I am afraid.

I installed ATIH2012 while in a clean boot environment. I ran it from my normal boot environment which is where I was when it crashed! 'Running ATIH in a clean boot environment is not particularly useful, in my opinion, if it even will run there! Thanks for your suggestions!

David,
You know this is forum is run by the Acronis user community. I am a user like you. If you want Acronis support, you'd better contact them directly.
It looks like ATI runs well in a clean boot environment, but not in normal boot. This means some other third party software conflicts with ATIH. To troubleshoot, you'd have to enable half of the non-microsoft services, see if ATI works. If it does, enable the other half. If it doesn't, enable only a fourth of the services, and reiterate through dichotomy until you have identified which third party software conflicts.

But you will need spare $10 and result of this http://kb.acronis.com/content/2192

Yes, I tried the $10 route yesterday and that resulted in me getting the charge reversed as support was unable to find a solution to my particular issue(s). Please see my earlier reply concerning Acronis support. I purchased the product with the belief (based on many years of earlier versions) that I was purchasing a useable product! I am the proud owner of two full licenses and two licenses for the PlusPack Supplement and those are only the licenses for 2012! I have neither the time, the interest nor am I getting paid enough to resolve Acronis's software issues! Yes, I know, it is indubitably my problem as I am running Windows 7 and trying to use a product that will work fine on Vista, XP, Windows 3.11, MS-DOS and many earlier OS'es ;<}. Windows 7 includes a useable back up program itself! And AITH2011 seems to work fine with WIN7 x86 & 64 bit! So as I said to start with...does anyone at Acronis understand "Refund please!".

David,
From one user to another user.
If you want and qualify for a refund, you will need to initiate the request directly with Customer Service.
An extract from the a sticky above.

Thanks for the reminder Grover! Unfortunately The grace period had expired before I even installed the downloaded product. I purchased in advance of the actual release date (for a somewhat reduced price, the Halloween special I believe it was) thus the purchase date and download date were not the same! I am a bit baffled by the thirty day deadline as the software doesn't work any better now (3 releases later, I believe) than when I first tried to get it to work!
Also, I did just have an opportunity to confirm that it does work just fine on a 32 bit Windows XP Home Edition system that I am repairing for a friend! That's AITH2012!

getting the charge reversed as support was unable to find a solution to my particular issue(s).
There is no way tier 1 support (and I believe you were dealing with it) could decide (in one day) whether they are able or unable to find solution if the issue is program crash.

In the instance referred to, concerning reversed charges the issue was not program crash! It was an accidentally deleted backup due to a hair trigger delete option! I suggested that it would not be at all inappropriate to have a "confirmation" dialog before anything is actually deleted. Better yet, would be for the delete option to not actually delete any archive, simply edit the list of backups. I'm still looking for an undelete program that can actually rewrite my 60+gb backup! It is on a USB drive that has not been written to since the archive was unintentionally deleted! EaseUS DRW WinPE doesn't seem to want to do the job (I suspect due to the size of the archive). Any suggestions will be considered and hopefully greatly appreciated!
