2012 Boot Disk Fails
I created a new 2012 boot disk. It boots fine. I choose TI Home. The TI Home logo appears and then my screen goes black. It also happens if I use my old TI Home 2011 disk.

I recently installed a new motherboard, an MSI Z77A-GD65, Intel i5-3570K CPU and 16GB RAM. I have a card reader attached to the internal USB header. I have a wired keyboard and a wireless Microsoft Explorer Mouse.
Boot disks from other utilities such as Powersuite 2012 work fine.

Pat,
It is possible the card reader is the problem, as it loads TIH (Windows and Linux versions) try to enumerate all media, some card readers report themselves as disks but TIH then can't find any disk signatures and sulks, with the Linux environment it can also be the fact the driver for that particular brand/model isn't available in the Kernel.
Disconnect the card reader and see if you get any further. If everything works, it might be possible for Acronis to make you a customised version of the recovery environment ot work on your PC.
Another debugging option is to press F11 just after the Acronis Loading.... comes up which will bring up a command line with the word QUIET.. remove QUIET and continue booting, you will now see Linux reporting what it is doing, check to see if you see FAILED appearing and see what it relates to. Obviously if you don't have RAID then expect to see this showing as failed.

Acronis worked ok on my previous motherboard using the same card reader. It would be a real pain to have to open my case and unplug the card reader when I need to restore a backup.

I disconnected the card reader. No help?
I hit F11 and removed quiet. It still went to black and did not display Linux reporting.

OK,
It's annoying that Acronis removed the Safe option from the recovery media.
Try, selecting F11 again, but this time leave the word quiet and insert NOAPIC after it, see if that gets you going.
As you are not seeing any Linux booting text with the quiet removed, I'm now wondering if it is having a problem accessing the video card.
Just so that I've got this correct - with both the 2011 and 2012 CD you can get to the first Acronis selection menu and it is only when you select True Image itself that everything goes pear shaped?
Did the 2011 CD work with your old motherboard?
Do you have a separate video card or is it a motherboard based one?
Is it more than 30 days since you purchased True Image?
It might be an idea to run an Acronis report from the option on the menu (if it will allow you to) and see if there is anything in the report that highlights where your problem lies.

NOAPIC does not help and I cannot generate a report. When I make that choice, the screen goes black.
I have a separate video card, an MSI R7850 running on a PCI-E 3.0 bus.
Both the 2011 and 2012 CDs worked on my old MB.
I purchased TI Home several months ago. I had to stop using it until the latest build due to problems with USB devices. It seems like Acronis just loves to "hijack" your system, making registry entries that make backing out of TI difficult. I like the software but it still needs work.

Patrick,
If you are having difficulty recovering an image due to the recovery CD, Acronis normally don't charge for support, so it might be worthwhile checking this out.
One thing worth checking, is your new BIOS a UEFI type and is there an entry that allows you to switch legacy device compatibility on?

The only reference to UEFI is as an alternate boot device. I have it on the end of my list. Boot from CD is first.
Good point re ACRONIS. If no one in the group comes up with a solution, I will try them again. I did send them a service request a few days ago but haven't heard back from them. Thanks

Just one last thought, as you have a UEFI BIOS, check to see if your disk are in GPT or basic disk format, if GPT then the default recovery CD won't be able to read them, only the Plus Pack add on allows GPT disks to be read.

They are in standard format. As I understand, GPT format is needed only if the drive is greater than 2TB.
Does the plus pack create a recovery disk different than the standard disk? If so, where can I get a copy before I reinstall 2012 home with all the baggage that comes with it. If it works, I don't mind the baggage but if it does not, recovery is a chore.

Yes, the plus pack bootable media is different (same but the plus pack features added) plus it has its own serial number.
It is possible to create a bootable media with the plus pack included without installing TI or the TI with the plus pack.
Register the Plus pack serial number and then look under the plus pack registration and both the regular plus pack installation file is listed but also listed is the iso file for the plus pack which included the regular program plus the plus pack. This iso file can be burnt as an image onto a CD and it will be the same as if created from a completed installation which has the plus pack installed.

I downloaded the Plus Pack ISO and burned a CD. It boots OK but as soon as I choose TI Home, it goes to black!

The fix was to create a boot disk using WINPE and Plus Pack.
See Acronis Knowledge Base 23882.
Thanks to all for your assistance.

Good to know you've got going, hopefully Acronis can find out why the standard Linux environment was causing a problem.

I finally got it going but what does the user who owns only TI Home do as you have to have Plus to build the Windows PE boot disk. I agree that Acronis needs to figure out what is wrong with the Linux based build.
