Acronis starts it's own backup

Thread needs solution

I have set up a very simple backup plan: Create a full backup every day at 2300 hrs, and delete automatically if there's no more room left. I have two backup disks that I swap on a rotating schedule every now and then. Because of lack of support for rotating backup disks (come on Acronis, we're in the 2000s now, not 1960s), sometimes the backup locks up and is unwilling to clean up (delete) old archives automatically, so I have to go manually into my vaults and delete them.
Now all of a sudden, Acronis B&R10.0.13762 has decided to back up after its own secret plan in addition to my plan!

When I look at the dashboard, there's only one single plan, the one I created.

When I look at my vault (or at the actual backup disk), I can see two archives:
One called Archive(2) containing the full backups according to my plan, that the past few days started at approx 23:09.
One called Archive, containing one full, 3 differentials and one incremental backup that started at 23:00 over the past few days.

Now why on earth is the other archive there? I never asked Acronis to create differential or incremental backups. There's only one plan in the dashboard. My plan. I know Acronis gets confused since I swap backup disks now and then, but inventing its own plan and starting it at the same time as mine; I think that's a bit odd.

How do I delete this secret plan?

Did you check that the plan you see in 'plans and tasks' indeed has the archive name 'archive' not archive(2) ?
There must be an orphaned task that doesn't correstond to any backup plan, but still executes. List of task can be obtained as described in http://kb.acronis.com/content/1859 : get schedmgr report
schedmgr get report > schedreport.txt

Then you need to delete that 'wrong' task. To determine which one is wrong, get scheduler log as described in the same article ('Getting a log' section). There must be task ids in report and log, if in doubt post them here.

Sorry for slow reply, I have been on vacation, and not rushed this since the backup actually works, just double. I just have to delete some .tib-files now and then to make room for the extra files. I have started the logging as you described, and will check the log tomorrow.

The three attached files are:
schedul2.log = The log as requested
backupdir.txt = the directory of the backupdisk
backupplan.png = screenshot from Acronis sorted by name. If I scroll further down, I only see other Deletion tasks, no other backup tasks than the one listed at the top.

I don't know how to find the ID of the two plans, and even if I did, I wouldn't know how to delete the plan that doesn't show in Acronis.

Sorry about double posts, but I didn't see my latest reply to this thread from another computer, even though I deleted internetcache, refreshed the page, and even tried another browser. When I logged in I saw all my posts though. Dunno why I had to log in, because I could see all three first posts in this thread without doing so. I can't find a Delete Post-button either

Hello Runar,

Thank you for your post.

Regarding your initial question, in Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 you can backup, using changeable media by setting up your backup task following this article in our Knowledge Base.

As you have had problems to delete your testing posts, I have done this for you.

If there is anything else, we can do for you, please let me know.

Thank you.

Tasks 1-41 1-42 and 1-43 starts at 23:00 and you need to delete them. Use
task [task number]
task delete

command as described in that kb

If this doesn't work (or delete 'good' task instead), you can use 'task zap' schedmgr command to delete all tasks and the recreate (edit and save) you only backup plan, which will recreate only tasks of this plan.

I did a 'task zap'. Next scheduled backup is Monday evening at 2300hrs.

I then recreated my backupplan, this time turning off autogenerated names. Unfortunately lots of room to make mistakes since I have to do the following:
Create New Backup Plan:
* Type Archice name = 1Monday
* Select Source = C: & D:
* Select Archive = F:
* Archive name = 1Monday.tib
* Turn off autogenerated names
* Select Scheme = Scheduled
* Scheduled = Weekly; Mondays ; 2300hrs
* Select Validation = After full
Then repeat for all other days, and add one monthly as well. That's 60 selections in total. Lucky I have saved the email notification settings.

We'll see Tuesday if everything the secret task has been properly removed.

It's Tuesday, and backup is running the way it should. Thanks for your help and patience, dev-anon & Peter Vigoureux.

Hi Runar,

Thanks for your feedback. I would also like to thank dev-anon you for your assistance.

This problem is solved and I will close this thread now.

Thank you.
