Acronis True Image 2012 Refuses to Do Back-Up on Shut Down

Thread needs solution

I bought an Upgrade Acronis True Image 2012 as my back up software a week ago - but despite endless attempts - neither Acronis tech support nor I can make this version carryout the "Back-Up on Shutdown" as scheduled - we have been working on the problem for week but NO RESULT

My Acronis Back Up software just refuses to recognise the “Back Up on Shut Down” command.

I can get it to carry out back ups manually and on Start Up, or at any time / date I select – but it just doesn’t see / recognise “Shutdown” – so when I shut down the computer – instead of going off and doing its scheduled back up – it just shuts down without doing anything.

The system I have runs Windows XP with a:
Floppy drive @ A,
Internal HDD (250 Gb) @ C,
DVD R/W @ D,
DVD R/W @ E and
2Tb external HDD @ G (this is the back up destination drive)

I have 8 USB 2 ports on the back and the only things connected to them are my 2 Lexmark printers:
A Lexmark X8300 on USB 002 described as Virtual Printer Port for USB, &
A Lexmark Z12 on USB 003 described as Virtual Printer Port for USB
Dive F is the card reader on my Lexmark X8300 printer

I also have a 4 port USB 3 expansion card installed, but my new Seagate 2Tb external HDD is the only thing connected to the USB 3 expansion card ports

As a last resort, yesterday, I stripped ATI 2012 from my computer and downloaded a fresh copy from the Acronis web site, re-loaded and activated. Then, just in case there might have been a issue with my external HDD backups - I stripped all past Back Ups from my external HDD and did a complete fresh reconfigure of the freshly loaded copy of ATI 2012.

Then I did a 1st clean full backup of both my C Drive and my emails with the ATI 2012 configured to do a differential back up of my emails "On Log Off" and to do a differential back up of my "C" drive on shut down.

This morning I turned on my computer and when I shut down through Windows - It just shut down immediately again - without carrying out any of my scheduled backups!! This is a real PiA and I can't understand what is wrong as my previous version, Acronis True Image 2010, - would carryout "Backups on Shutdown" without any problems

Have any other ATI 2012 users had this problem - or does anyone have any suggestions as to what is wrong

Philip,

Is your PC a brand name one, if so what version and model?

Do you have any other software utilities running that might 'upset' TIH, such as InCD, registry tracker etc?

This is a standard install of XP, it isn't a corporate version with policy restrictions enacted or one that has been made with XPLite or similar software?

System was custom built by a pro computer shop for me:
CPU: Intel CORE 2 DUO E8400 3.00GHz
Mainboard: Gigabyte GA-EP35C-DS3R (Rev 2.1
Memory: 4Gb RAM
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 250Gb 16Mb Cache SATA2
Video: Gigabyte GT430 GV-N4300C-1GL
CD Rom: LiteOn DH-20A3L 20X DVD SUPER ALL-WRITE LIGHT SCRIBE,SATA + Pioneer DVD
Power Supply: Earthwatts 500W
Printer: Lexmark Z12 + X 8300
OS: Win XP Home (SP3)
External HDD Seagate 2Tb

I don't know much about software utilities running - but yes there is a tab on the bottom RH side of my screen called InCD and its somthing to do with Nero - I habve never used it
The weird thing is that ATI 2010 ran On shut Down Back Ups quite happily - and I only upgraded to ATI 2012 last week because my old Maxtor mini external HDD died and i bought the seagate, so thought it would be a good idea to upgrade my ATI at the same time

Try disbaling the InCD service and see if TIH behaves. TIH and InCd have a history of mutual dislike on some systems.

InCD allows you to run your CD as a hard drive and using rewritable CD's allows drag and drop of files it also has other uses for some of the Nero utilities. It has nothing to do with actually burning a CD/DVD.

Sorry - but I am a complete amateur at computers - what steps do i need to take to disable InCD. I never use it anyway - so your suggestion is worth a try

Hi Colin B
Ok - I managed to get rid of InCD - which really took some research - but its gone now. BUT NO LUCK

I just shutdown Windows and it shut down right away- without carrying out any of the scheduled back ups at all.
I checked Acronis TI 2012 program on restart and nothing has been backed up since yesterday's full back up. I seems that ATI 2012 just does not see the shutdown or doesn't halt the Windows shutdown process so it can do its thing. So on "Shutdown" selection - Windows just shuts down straight away.

Anyone got any other ideas - because this is really wierd given that this process worked perfectly with my old ATI 2010
