ATIH - Latest Build will not backup Outlook 2010

Thread needs solution

HI,

I am using ATIH 2012 Build 7133 on a Windows 7 SP1 x64 system and ATIH refuses to complete a backup of Outlook 2010.

I use "Other types of backups" and choose email. Outlook shows up fine there and then I start the back up and it always gets stuck at 25%. Never goes any further.

Any ideas to start with?

Thanks,

This is sign of damaged Outlook PST file. Well, damaged is maybe strong word, because Outlook corrupts its own database pretty much every time you run it. That's according to their own Outlook Inbox Repair Tool.

If you are repairing mailbox of another user you need to run this tool as administrator (right click on it and select "Run as Administrator"). If your Office is installed in default location you will find it as C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\SCANPST.EXE. Run it, select location of your .PST file (that's Outlook database) and click on Start. It will identify one or more errors and fix them. Then you need to start it again and again (yes, tool is THAT brain dead) until no more errors are found. Once all errors are fixed backup will run without issues.

Get ready to repeat this procedure every couple of months (depending how often you use Outlook).

If you don't know location of your .PST file, they are normally created in C:\Users\your user name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook directory.

Before running the SCANPST.EXE tool, it is a good idea to make a copy of the .pst file you are attempting to run this tool on. Although I have used this tool numerous times with good results, it has, on occasion, made the .pst file worse instead of better.

Well it at least backed up. Restoring it will be the big test.

Thanks!!

Isn't working anymore. I used scanpst to fix any errors and ATIH 2012 still just gets stuck backing it up about 3/4 of the way through.

Anyone have any ideas? I went through all the KB's I could find to do with backing up emails and could find nothing.

Got it! I did not realize it backed up the RSS feeds as well. I have about 2000 of them and I allready back them up in an OPML file so I unchecked that option in ATIH and BAM! it backed everything else up in about 30 seconds.

Thanks,
