Work in a virtual copy of system.

Thread needs solution

Hello! I am thinking to buy Acronis software. My main need is:
I am working in the office. Its not so easy to work on the pc that is not only in my use.
So, can i make a copy for my system like it is now, copy it on the external HDD and boot from it?
Because i want to install my own programs and I dont want someone to use them.

Thats why i decided, it will be really cool, to come in the office, to connect my external hdd, to start operation system (my system with all my programs) from my hdd and to work? So after I can easyly disconnect it, and someone else can work in basic operation system that was installed from the begining!

Is that possible for 100% ? I will buy it today if that dream can be truth :)

Nicolai,

True Image can't do what you are wanting directly, apart from which, depending on your version of Windows depends on whether you have a chance of booting externally.

As far as programs are concerned the sort of software that is likely to do what you want is either VMWare ThinApp (not free) or Cameyo (which is free), these allow you to virtualise programs so they are portable, you plug your USB stick into a PC and those programs will run as though you'd installed them on the actual PC. Not all programs will run like this, but many will.

For Windows 7 Ultimate or Enterprise you could image the PC with True Image, then convert it to a VHD file and then add that VHD file to the W7 boot menu. Windows 8 makes this easier.
