Acronis True Imagen - The image size varies

Thread needs solution

When creating an image of our Windows 7 Professional x64, the image file size varies wildly, from 5 Gb to 150 Gb, and then loading back the image can drop several errors or work perfectly, not depending on the size of the image file. We tested doing 100+ images from a set of three identical Lenovo E20.
- Windows 7 is in a single partition.
- Test performed with Acronis 2011 and 2012 with the same results.
- Any ideas?

Juan,

Hard to have a generic answer, but I'd say what you observe is typically linked to:
- user errors when selecting what to backup (ATI tends to select certain folders or partitions, depending on the type of backup, by default)
- disk errors (which can be solved through chkdsk X: /r)

You also know that the used sectors of the disk include a variety of data from:
- the NTFS file system. Some big files might be incompletely erased,
- the Windows System Protection Shadow copies,
- Windows indexes, temp files,
- Defragmentation.
