ATIH 2012 rescue CD won't boot

Thread needs solution

My ATIH 2012 build 7119 rescue (burned from ISO) won't boot on my HP Pavilion dm4. The HP OS is Win7HomePrem, but I don't know if this matters when booting from the CD. The error message is "Acronis Loader: Unable to run Boot menu." ATIH runs OK from Windows, the CD boots OK on another PC. Can you suggest a fix for this issue?

It may not make any difference but I would download the iso file again and
Right click on the iso file and choose the "open with" option and
choose the Windows Disk Image Burner to burn the iso to CD.

I found the ISO download, but the FAQ says it's the same as the one created by the current version, which is what I used. I burned it by double clicking on the ISO file and using the Windows 7 tool that came up. I think the disk is OK since it boots in another PC. Do you think there is a problem with this approach? I suspect a driver or bios incompatibility issue, but I don't really know.

Upper right corner, log in to your account and the downloads can be found under the "My products & downloads"
The bootable media is the iso file.

I downloaded and burned the ISO file and am still not able to boot. I still get the "Acronis Loader: Unable to run Boot menu." error. After clicking Enter to get pass this error I get the following,

Loading, please wait ...
Kernel panic - not syncing: UFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(1,0)
Pid: 1, comm: swapper Not tainted 2.6.39.3-acronis-b104 #1

followed by several trace lines

The disk works on another PC, so it seems to be some incompatibility with my HP Pavilion dm4. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

As the rescue disk is based upon Linux kernel, it doesn't have drivers for all hardware and can not be updated except by Acronis. If you purchase the Acronis True Image Plus Pack, you can then create a WinPE based rescue disk, and it should work with your system since it is based upon Windows 7 drivers. More drivers can be added to the WinPE rescue disk in case the default drivers do not support your system. In addition the Plus Pack supports more types of hard disk partitions.

I created a WinPE Acronis Rescue disk, but that also would not boot in my Win7 HP Pavilion, although like the Linux rescue disks it does boot in my Win7 desktop. Perhaps there is some incompatibility with the CD drive, however other boot disks work correctly, such as the Win7 installation DVD and the HP recovery DVD. Maybe the issue is just with boot CDs rather than boot DVDs.

Regardless, I did find a solution. I used YUMI to create a bootable USB flash drive with the downloaded Acronis Rescue ISO. This worked. The thumb drive boots and runs TI.

1) some while back i had a similar issue that i was able to resolve by doing both:
- update the motherboard's BIOS
- update the firmware of the optical drive (CD / DVD)
for further details see: http://forum.acronis.com/forum/16521

2) also make sure to use the very latest acronis update available from your online account downloads:
- windows installer
- bootable rescue media ISO download
have you tried the most recent update? which version exactly?

3) also check if your system is running stable in regular scenarios. i.e. can you rule out that any hardware issues (e.g. bad memory) or bios / firmware issues exist?

This could actually be an issue with one of your enabled devices on the motherboard such as a smart card reader or SD card slot. Try disabling those and booting into the Acronis recovery area again. Also, if you have anything in your BIOS talking about UEFI try and disable that. The rescue disc wont work if it is running in UEFI mode (when I booted to mine it gave me an option to choose either UEFI mode or BIOS mode).
