Windows 7 Backup Conflicting With Acronis?

Thread needs solution

I have been using Acronis products for years, and I am  quite distressed to see all the problems going on with the latest Acronis builds.

I have been avidly following the posts from the (justifiably) angry customers who need reliable back up,especially in an enterprise and small business setting.

I  build, fix, and maintain my own computers, and my migration to Windows 7 is imminent, I was counting on Acronis to get me there.

So without any sarcasm or anger, I respectfully ask, especially to the more knowledgeable people, are we sure that this isn't a Windows 7 issue?

(Yes, I agree that a build should not be released by Acrois until it is fully tested with Windows 7)

Just this morning, for example, I see this, which is typical of early adopter issues:

“You have a computer that is running Windows 7. When the system is under heavy load, you may encounter one or more of the following problems: the hotkey on your keyboard does not work. For example, you press the hotkey to control the brightness of your computer screen. However, the level of brightness does not change. Windows 7 stops responding when you shut down the computer or put the computer into Sleep,” Microsoft explained.

My point is, (for those saying what does this have to do with Acronis?) the Acronis backup may be putting the system under heavy load.

This does not excuse stonewalling and lack of communication on the part of Acronis tech support.

At any rate, with that preface, I was wondering if anyone had tried disabling the Windows 7 native backup utility and seeing of that made any difference?

My thought is that the Windows 7 native backup scheduler may be conflicting with commands to schedule/don't schedule an Acronis backup.

Much like two antivirus programs running resident trying to do the same job with the same commands.

Just a thought, but here is how you turn off backup scheduling:

1. Open the Control Panel (All Items View).

2. Click on the Backup and Restore

icon.

3. To Turn Off the Automatic Backup Schedule -

A) Click on the Turn off schedule link in the upper left blue pane. (See screenshot

below)
NOTE: It may take a few seconds to turn off.

B) Go to step 5.

4. To Turn On the Automatic Backup Schedule -
NOTE: To change the schedule settings after turning it on, click on the Change settings link and follow the instructions from step 5 on in this tutorial.

A) Click on the Turn on schedule link to the right of Schedule. (See screenshot below)
NOTE: It may take a few seconds to turn on.

5. Close the Backup and Restore window when done. (See screenshot above)

I just wonder is it default that Backup Schedule is turned on? At least I do not have it on.

I don't know if the scheduler is enabled, but according to this, the "backup user and system data" is enabled by default.

So if Acronis is trying to backup the data and Windows is as well, a conflict in system commands would result right?

FWIW, I have had no problems with build 6029 or 6053 installed on XP SP3, all the functions have worked flawlessly.

Phrased another way (and anyone please chime in) why doe these builds work in XP SP3 and not in Windows 7?

Well, apparently it is not working for everyone even in XP Pro, point taken.

I am not looking to join the frustration echo chamber, I am trying to figure out why the same file I download from the same server installs and the program functions correctly, while other have system crashes.

The only answer that makes sense to me is the variation in hardware and Service Packs and MS Patches.

FWIW, Acronis PR is not keeping up with Acronis reality.

I just got an e mail inviting me to upgrade to TI 2010 (No Thanks I already have..why don't you know this?I registered the product!) and if I upgrade now :

"Upgrade to Acronis True Image Home 2010 and get the next upgrade for free!"

Just two months after its release, Acronis True Image Home 2010 has already received over 100 positive reviews from top IT-magazines around the world, claiming this to be the best version of True Image ever released and outpacing other solutions on the market!

Wha??????

How about simply fixing the issues?
