Do I really need the Plus Pack?
Have 2012 TIH. but have installed Windows 8.
I am thinking of buying a the actual product at my local store - vs the upgrade process via the Acronis website (for one, I'll have a disc & two tired of having to enter the new S/N and the older S/N ).
The TIH does Clone a drive - so why do I need the Plus Pack?
With 2012 I was able to take my image from a traditional drive and burn to an SSD (last year), though did need Paragon to align the SSD.
I guess another question to ask is - what IS the difference between Clone (TIH 2013) vs Migrate (via the Plus Pack) ?
Thx

Seth,
As for buying the store based product, you will still need to check that it is the current build and possibly download that from your account. The only thing you save by purchasing the CD based versionis you don't have to make your own recovery Cd as the CD itself is bootable.
You could always purchase the full version direct from the Acronis website to save the dual serial number requirement.

Colin -
Local store has the current version.

Seth,
I'll answer on behalf of Tuttle as he isn't online at the moment.
In essence the clone feature of 2013 and ME 7 are the same, however ME 7 hasn't been updated for a few years now to my knowledge so I'm not sure how much ME 7 knows about the new 4K sector boundaries. True Image definitely knows about them and so I assume the cloning function in 2013 has been updated.
What I was getting at concerning store purchased versus online (and I didn't word it very well), is that the store offerings are often not the latest build, in fact I don't think Acronis update the CD version from the first build of each language version produced. So, to get the latest build you would need to download it from your account and make a new CD to take account of any alteratiosn to the drivers or kernel they might have made.

ummm - what is "ME 7" ?
And - since 2012 worked for me - going from a hard drive to a SSD, then the migration tool in Plus Pack not necessary?
I ask as my downstairs has a HHD & I may want to swap out with a SSD.
The down stairs has Win 8 on it. This PC still has Win 7 and with an Intel 520 SSD.
Now if the Intel SSD fails, I would like to think the Images/Clones I have created will work on a new SSD - Intel or not.

You need the Plus Pack in 3 cases:
- your standard recovery CD doesn't work well on your computer, then you use the Plus Pack to create a WinPE-disk that uses Windows drivers and, therefore, tends to solve hardware compatibility issues,
- you want to restore the image of computer A to computer B, where B has a different motherboard and or disk controller. Then you use the Plus Pack to enable Universal Restore on the recovery CD and sliptstream the fundamental drivers as you restore the image.
- you want to restore the image of computer A to computer A where you changed some key disk settings. Like moving from IDE/AHCI to RAID or vice versa.
You don't need the Plus pack to restore an image to a new disk (SSD, hybrid, standard), except in the cases above.
Cases #2 and #3 above are called "migrate" by Acronis marketing. It is not, in this case, a different product, and should not be confused with the "Migrate Easy" product.

Pat - THOSE examples help me to understand - THANKS !
So guessing ME 7 is Migrate Easy 7 - yes?

Yes ME 7 = Migrate Easy 7; TIH = True Image Home, ABR = Acronis Backup and Recovery.
