Backup numbers out of sequence

Thread needs solution

I have created a custom backup that includes one full backup and six incremental backups. The cycle is repeated every seven days and cleaned up after the total backups reach 800G. The first backup cycle worked as expected creating the backups full_b1_s1 through inc_b7_s1. The second cycle created full_b2_s1 through inc_b2_s5. Here's the problem: the next two backups were named inc_b1_s8 and inc_b1_s9 . However, the next two backups in this sequence should have been named inc_b2_s6 and inc_b2_s7! Any ideas on what is going on here and how I can fix this?
Thank you.

What it appears to me is that at 800G or near, the backups are being consolidated or merged. To me, I prefer not to use consolidation as it has the risk factor of ruining a perfectly good backup and is more time consuming. You may not have a problem but if it were me, I would cease to use this backup scheme with the 800G limit and instead create a new backup scheme based on keeping x number of recent version chains. Editing a task can cause unexpected results. When edits needed, I create a new task with the new settings and cease to use the old task. My recommendation when configuring a new backup scheme is to use the keep x number of backups and point the new task to any empty sub-folder so backup files are not inter-mingled.

The figure 11-Inc inside this link is an example of how I would configure the backup scheme and you can change the 6 and 4 example to fit your needs. What I am suggesting is a matter of personal preference of a configuration which has worked for me without any issues.
