Latest Build Of Disk Director 10 Causes True Image to crash

Thread needs solution

Have just installed the latest build of Disk Director 10
Now when I try to start True Image 2010 (latest build) the windows error reporting tool pops up with "Acronis True Image has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
Surely these products should be compatable with each other.

Hello,

welcome to the club!
The same problem I reported here:
http://forum.acronis.com/forum/5486#comment-9231

Have re-installed TI build 5055 and DD build 2239 and they both work without any problem.
So it would appear build 6029 of TI is the cause.

Gabriel:

Has Acronis fixed the problem of DD 10 build 2239 crashing when starting the Disk Editor? See the first symptom in this post. I had tested only the bootable ISO program but others have reported the same problem with the Windows version of Disk Director.

Mark:

Not really I booted the full version from the iso image and when I tried Disk Editor DD locked and the machine re-booted. However when I loaded the safe version it worked without a problem .

Gabriel

Hello all,

Installation of Acronis Disk Director 10.0 over Acronis True Image Home 2010 may change the location of the appropriate Acronis drivers.

Gabriel,

Have you tried to to reinstall the programs in the following order?

1) Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0

2) Acronis True Image Home 2010 (build 6029)?

This should resolve the issue. If the issue persists, it may have another reason. In this case please let us know the operating system you are using, I will provide you with the instructions on how to obtain the necessary files to troubleshoot the issue.

Mark,

The issue with the program crash after launching Disk Editor has been reproduced by QA Team and it is under investigation now.

Thank you.

Hello,

it does not work!!!
Please read my posting, I wrote above:

Hi Everyone,
I have the same problem having just installed the latest builds of True image (13.0.0.6029) and Disk Director 10 (10.0.0.2239). I can install one or other of the applications and they run OK. But if I install them both, neither will start.
I logged the problem with support, but have heard nothing back so far.

Hello simplicissimus  and Graham,

We should give the issue a closer investigation.

If you agree to provide us with several diagnostic files I will create cases for you. Please let me know about it via PMs.

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.

Thank you.

Tried your suggested installation sequence:
Result DD threw up an error message saying files were missing please re-install
TI just crashed.
Will revert back to previous TI build for the time being.
Must make the point that recent releases of True Image have contained a number of bugs and it appears that Acronis is relying on users to identify the problems on their behalf.
I am using xp pro with all updates and service packs installed as there is no way I will install Any acronis product on my win 7 machine.

The installation sequence doesn't work. I emailed support 3 weeks ago telling them exactly this & there's several posts on this board about it. I finally received one back telling me about using the removal software & doing the sequence.
However I didn't get my question answered on how tp get a refund as I just purchased the package.
It's like they don't even read the emails.

I posted on this subjetc in the Acronis Trut Image forum and received no valid response from Acronis so far.

--------------

Hello,

I bought True Image 2010 Home 6029_s and Disk Director Suite 10.0.2239_s more than a week ago and am therefore using the LATEST BUILDS. I run an up to date Windows XP Pro SP3.

I chose Acronis' software thinking more than 10 versions and a lot more builds would provide me with rock solid stability. I am in the middle of reinstalling my system, a process that is already driving me crazy and tired. This, by the way, means - and I guarantee that - my system is CLEAR of any virus, missing or corrupted system files which might cause this issue.

The last thing I was expecting was

1. True Image crashing and failing to start (!!) if I install True Image first then Disk Director, or
2. both True Image and Disk Director crashing and failing to start (!!!) if I install Disk Director first then True Image (following the advice of a certain Mr. Tarun Kumar from Acronis' online chat support team gave me three days ago).

So, no matter in which order I install them, I end up with at least one of the two programs crashing and failing to start.

I even just scrupulously followed a regular poster's advice, step by step. Having cleaned-up my computer using Acronis Cleanup Utility - I even added to that one sweep from JV16 PowerTools 2009 - I reinstalled ADDS and ATI in the specified order.

- ADDS did start at the end of its installation.

- I then rebooted and installed ATI. At the end of the installation, I rebooted again at the prompt.

RESULT: back to square ONE! Just like before, both programs now crash when I try to start them!

If, like Mr. Kumar wrote in our chat: "not all customers are facing the issues" and "this is due to some functional dependency", I guess it is probably because they are running previous builds and haven't updated yet, luckily for them!

The issue is reputed "known" on the release notes of the build latest ATI build.

https://www.acronis.com/my/products/changes.html?p=6652

I also noticed that the process TrueImageMonitor.exe would not stop normally when I restart or turn off my computer. I had to terminate the process manually. This issue is probably related to the above but I prefer to mention it anyway.

My only question to Acronis - to Oleg, if he reads my post - was and still is WHEN (!), WHEN can they release NEW BUILDS that will fix this issue. Needless to say I feel slightly outraged for I cannot even use software I already paid for. I should have tested them before buying.

I certainly do not want to read what Mr. Kumar wrote, that is :

- that, "as it is a known issue, so would be fixed in next release" - like I didn't know that.
- that "there is no fixed time frame, but will be released soon" - no kidding, soon? Great! Just what I needed to hear, thanks a million!
- in other words, that there is no way for the support department to give me even an estimated release date.

I just bought two pieces of software from the same company, which are MUTUALLY INCOMPATIBLE (!) and which I happen to need urgently.

It has been several days I submitted my first query on this issue to the support department, through their support form and through their chat service. All I got was automated receipt acknowledgement and useless information.

I desperately try to have an idea of the debugging status, so as to know if the next releases should occur roughly in two days, two weeks or one month and whether or not I should claim my money back.

Oleg, please do let us know what diagnosis files you need.

Hello,

Our QA Team was able to reproduce the issue, it is under investigation now. Our developers will create a fix as soon as possible.  Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience.

Meanwhile, as a workaround please perform the desired partitioning operations from Acronis Disk Director Rescue Media. You don't need Acronis Disk Director to be installed. We have implemented the possibility to download the appropriate ISO file after logging in to your account (the serial number should be registered). Please log in to your account, go to the Registered products and downloads section -> Bootable media. Download the file.

Please see this article for more information.

Carl,

The appropriate engineer will take care about your request, I have reported about the case to the appropriate manager.

Thank you.

Hello Oleg,

Would you please be a little more specific as to the date - be it a rough one - for the release of ADD's next build? Acronis just released ATI's latest build and according to the release notes, ATI's crashing issue has been addressed. Is the release of ADD's next build imminent as well?

Thank you for your follow-up and for the additional details you may provide us with.

H.C.

Hello Hadrien,

Thank you for taking time to contact us.

We have released a new build of Acronis True Image Home 2010 (build #6053) that fixes Acronis True Image Home 2010 crash after installation of Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0 (please see Release notes).

You can learn on how to check the build number in Acronis True Image Home 2010 here

Please see the instructions on how to download the latest build.

Therefore, please do the following to install the software:

1) Please remove Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0 and Acronis True Image Home 2010 by means of Add or Remove utility (Start -> Run ->  appwiz.cpl)

2) Reboot the computer.

3) Install Acronis True Image Home 2010 (build #6053) and reboot the computer.

4) Install Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0 and reboot the computer.

After that the programs should be completely functional.

Please let us know the results. Please do not hesitate to ask additional questions if the provided information is not clear or you need a further assistance.

Thank you.

Oleg,

Will both programs function correctly if DD is installed first and then TI (6,053)?

In other words, is it required to install TI (6,053) before installing DD? If so, what happens when a new build of TI is released? Does DD need to be uninstalled so TI can be installed first?

Hello Paul,

Thank you for your notes.

You can install the programs in the backward order (I reproduced the installation on my machine and tried both variants, and the programs ran flawlessly). The main idea was to uninstall both corrupted programs prior installing them from the scratch. Sorry, if my words were misleading.

Thank you.
