can't access backup files due to Windows security

Thread needs solution

Acronis 2009 used its own viewer to mount backups and retrieve files from them. Acronis 2010 started mounting the volumes in Explorer, which creates a HUGE problem. Now Windows security controls access to the volume, and I CANNOT ACCESS MY BACKED UP FILES.

I backed up a dying computer, and I'm now trying to access this backup from my new computer so I can copy files over, and I cannot - even though I'm logged into an Administrator account. This makes Acronis truly useless as a backup program. Please tell me there is a way around this.

If the files came from another PC and had NTFS access permissions set, then you will need to Take Ownership of the files/folders. Using your favorite search engine, search for "take ownership Windows XX" where XX is your new computer's operating system version. Here's a typical link for Windows 7: http://www.dkszone.net/how-to-take-ownership-of-file-or-folder
