Restore To a Smaller SSD
Backing up a 2 TB Hard drive, that came with the DELL - "stock computer" onto another 2 TB Drive. and i want to restore it to a 120 Gigs Samsung 8400 SSD drive.?
Trying to swap out the Current 2 TB Hard drive, with a 120 Gigs SSD for faster Star tup. Thanks.
How much used space does the current 2TB drive have?
Is the drive partitioned (apart from the Dell service partition) into OS and data?
If your used space is greater than 120GB then a straight forward solution is not possible. It might be possible if the OS is on a separate partition to your data/programs.

Shows 1815GB used out of 1850 or about 35GB for the OS & programs which feels about right to me. Go ahead and try it! Should work fine.

Update;
Everything went smoothly, Cloned the 2 TB SATA HD to the Samcung 840 SSD.
The Cloned Samsung that I am Booting from using the EFI: Windows Boot Mgrr is identifying as Disk 1, instead of Disk 0, which I want.
Formatted the 2 TB SATA HD, still says Disk 0, and gave it a new Vol. name. I guess I will have to switch the SATA connections of the Samsung and the 2 TB SATA HD later, to give Primary C;/ a Disk 0.

Double check that your SSD is aligned:
- launch msinfo32
- look at components, hardware, disks
- the offset of each partition should be divisible by 4096
Just as a prevention.
When you move the data cables from motherboard connector 1 to connector 0,
I would reboot the computer with only the SSD attached just to make sure it will still boot. Later, connect the other connector.

Initially,it did NOT Boot,after switching the SATA Cables, I went into the BIOS set the SATA 1 as the first drive.
Booted it twice, by Restating and did a Shutdown to make sure, seems okay, abit "faster" after switching the SSD to Disk 0,probably Port 0 is faster, or it could be just DELL products.
Now, all I have to make sure it is allign.

Seems a lot numbers, and my calculator don't seem to house all those numbers, so that I can divide by 4096?? - but i made a snapshot below.
