Can't no more access to Samsung 700Z Bios while cloning

Thread needs solution

Hello ,

From Windows 8 , I ran the Clone Tool of ACronis True image 2013 to create a copy of my Samsung 700Z HDD to an external USB HDD .
AT once "ACronis True image 2013" reboot automatically ( or asked to reboot ) to begin the clone process,
and when the Acronis reboot took place , I got the following red screen issued from BIOS :

" Image field to verify with 'access denied' - Press any key to continue "

Of course my external HDD has not been cloned by Acronis True image , but now , once unplugged the targeted HDD , I have no more access to the BIOS settings . The " press "F2" to enter boot or "F4" to enter setup " banner that was displayed at the very beginning of the boot sequence has vanished , and I have no more access to the BIOS by pressing F2 key .

It seems that is related to the UEFI boot mode set in the bios by default , but now that I have no more access to the BIOS setting , I can't changed this BIOS boot mode .......

A CMOS-BIOS battery reset seems not the good solution has UEFI is default mode .

Can you help ?

Best regards ,

The F4 banner might have disappeared, but it ought to be still available - you might have to be very quick though.

Is the original drive still in the PC?

If access to the UEFI firmware is still not available, I'm not sure of what the next step should be other than contact Samsung support. Someone else recently had a problem with a Samsung laptop and True Image, though they didn't have the same problem as you.

The original problem is due to the new Windows 8 Secure Boot feature. At the moment to clone or restore a drive you need to disable Secure Boot and possibly if the UEFI firmware allows it switch the UEFI boot to legacy BIOS, however you need access to your F4 key. I have a feeling that some Samsung laptops don't have the legacy option available with out a UEFI upgrade which is only available from Samsung Support.

Cloning and OS restore should be done via the Acronis Recovery CD, so that Windows has no chance of interacting with the clone/restore which can cause problems.

If after detaching the external drive you still can't see the F4 option (I suggest switch the laptop off, remove the battery, wait about 60 seconds, reinsert the battery and try booting again), then a CMOS reset might be the only way to go, but I would perform an internet search to see if other Samsung users have had a similar problem and how they solved it before resetting the CMOS. I would definitely contact Samsung Support before doing anything drastic.
