Restored bare metal partition "operating system not found" but boots from Acronis TrueImage boot disk

Thread needs solution

My ASUS Z7S WS mbb died. I used an Acronis TrueImage 11 image to do a bare metal restore to a SuperMicro X7DWA-N which was the closest I could find to reuse my 2 CPU's The restoration was with TrueImage 2013.

The restore was uneventful, but the new system would not boot on its own. I did all the usual procedures, checked the hdd with SeaTools. Ihen I discovered that the Acronis boot disk would boot the image with the "continue to load operating system" so I loaded drivers, did updates, etc. I used the installation disk to try to fix boot errors. When this didn't work, i tried EasyBCD to restore the BCD. Then I restored the BCD manually. I tried Microsoft's fix on the Installation disk again, several times. After one attempt I got an error message that the bootmanager could not find some device. Code 0xc0000007b. Only once. I have submitted a support request to Acronis, but I thought I might post here to see if anyone else has this problem and has found a solution. I have that after shutting down, sometimes I need several attempts to get it to boot again. Using command windows and some Linux tools I have looked at the files, and I think that there is no major problem with image, just in getting it to boot. One other forum member had a similar boot problem when he restored with 2013, but not with 2012. I am a long time user and Acronis supporter, and several years had an amazing support with a technical problem. So all this is frustrating me. Thanks for any help you might be able to offer while I await official support.

Hi John,

Code 0x0000007b is usually an "Inaccessesible Boot Device". Primary cause is usually storage controller drivers or registry entries. Second is disk/hardware failure.

Not sure which OS you are running?

Have a look at these.

If XP

If W7

This is often tricky to figure out, but not impossbile to correct.

I believe I ran Microsoft Fix while trying to sort this out. It did not find any errors except with updates. It finds this each time it is run, and purports to fix it. But then it tends to recur at intervals. Thanks for the suggestion. This is on Win 7 64 bit Professional.

John,
You wrote "while I await official support."

Just to avoid any confusion, your post above will get support only from the forum volunteers.
If you want official support, you need to fill out a support ticket or live chat.
Note along the left column of this webpage is a listing on "How to get support?"

The problem you describe is sometimes the bios needing to be retold which drive to boot from and this is especially true after a disk restore has been completed.
