Acronis backup doesn't stop or complete

Thread needs solution

I'm using Windows 8 and trying to backup Outlook 2010. The processor goes wild (screaming) and after nearly 30 minutes, it does not complete.
After 5 minutes or so, it tells me there is less than one minute left but still has not completed 10 - 20 minutes later.
Help will be appreciated.

I am backing up to a WD MyPassport.

I supposed you are doing an email backup. Launch the mail control panel and see whether you have some rogue profile still left. Delete it if you have some. Does the backup complete then?
Disable your security software. Does the backup complete then?
Launch msconfig, disable all non-Microsoft services and non-Acronis service, reboot. Does the backup complete then?
Uninstall ATI, reboot, reinstall. What about now?

One other user reported a mail backup took an extra long time to complete but it did ultimately complete.

First, GroverH - this goes so long and it must overheat the cpu because on three occasion, it causes the laptop to suddenly to just shut down completely.

Pat, what first is the Mail Control Panel? Also, please explain "rogue profile" - I have disabled Norton 360 antivirus auto-protect ... and the ATI - this refers to?

ATI refers to Acronis True Image.
IN control panel, you should find the Mail control panel. Sometimes, when users install and uninstall OUtlook, or on corporate computers, you end up having older profiles still on the computer. Deleting the profiles that you don't use will make it easier for ATI to figure out what to backup.

There is no "mail control panel" within the Control Panel. Maybe you are referring to additional user accounts which I have none. Maybe you can clarify further. Thanks!

Let me edit here please - I finally made a mistake and did this right. I find two e-mail addresses in Outlook.
I would understand, according to what you are saying (I think) that one of these had to be deleted, correct? And yet, when I first started using Acronis, I never had this problem. Other programs such as PST or Toucan back up Outlook 2010 without any problem.

Any other suggestions will be most welcomed I'm sure.
