Acronis True Image refuses to install because it refuses to remove Acronis 2011

Thread needs solution

Yesterday I bought Acronis True Image, and I have earlier bought Both True Image 2009 and 2011. When I tried to install the new version of True Image it says "Cannot remove the following components , because they were installed for the current unser only: Acronis True Image Home 2011 (version 14.0.6942). Please uninstall them manually and try again." When I follow this advice and try to uninstall Acronis True Image I get this message: "The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. The error code is 2356." I am not able to install Acronis 2013 because I am not able to uninstall Acronis True Image 2011. What do I do? When I go to Acronis supprt I am refused because the error code which I get and report is not in the right format!!??!!

Try the Acronis True Image Cleanup Utility for 2011-2013: http://kb.acronis.com/content/34876
Be careful to follow all instructions, including not allowing the utility to reboot until you've made the Registry edits.

Thank you very much!! With your help (and the Cleanup Utility) I was able to remove Acronis True Image 2011. I will install True Image 2013 when I need it.
Than you!!

Hi, I bought Acronis True Image 2013 online today and I too am getting the same error message "Cannot remove the following components, because they were installed for the current user only. Acronis True Image Home 2011 (version 14.0.6942)."

I have used the cleanup tool as suggested and removed 2011, however I find myself now without 2011 and unable to install 2013 - the exact same error message pops up again when I try and install 2013.

Appreciate any help.

Thank you.

Did you follow the intructions on the Cleanup page, including disabling Acronis Startup Recovery Manager and Acronis Zone, manually deleting those Registry entries?

@Bowj,

Do you get the message when you try to reinstall 2011?

When you run the 2011 installer does it offer the remove option?

If you could post the MSI installer log for 2013 there might be something in it which points to the problem. You need to check the file and remove your email address and serial number if you see it in there.

I had Acronis 2011 and just bought the Update to 2013 following an email promotion. I paid downloaded etc. then when it came to install. I got the error "Cannot remove the following components, because they were installed for the current user only: Plus Pack Arconis True Image 2011(version 14.0.6942). Please uninstall them manually and try again". I uninstalled manually, re downloaded again for the 2scd time and tried again to get exactly the same error...
I downloaded the utility mentioned above to remove Acronis 2011, ran these and tried again to install 2013. I landed on the same error again...
What next!
