No notifications anymore when backup starts

Since upgrading to 6514 there are no notifications at the bottom of my screen when a scheduled backup starts. Only when it ends.

With 5551, there would always be a notification at the start of a scheduled backup, as well as at the end.

Does anyone know whether this was a design decision to remove the balloon popups when backups start, or whether it's a bug?
