Why BIOS setting changes automatically ?
Hello everybody,
True Image 2013 was installed yesterday morning. Since that day, I have the following problem if anyone can solve it.
The name of boot sector device changes automatically in my system in BIOS settings. This change occurs in the device name of the hard disk. sometimes BIOS uses another harddrive to start Windows. Of course, I get the message NTLDR is missing. The only way to get Windows working is to select the proper boot device and then to restart the pc.
I am really so irritated with this problem and my system just boots properly average once in 5-10 times. I am not sure True Image 2013 is reponsible for this. But according to Norton, I don't have any viruses. So, I am just asking any advices, thank you.
The CMOS battery is a new one.
What should i do to resolve this issue ?? My first idea was to uninstall True Image 2013 and see what happens ...
Thanks in advance.
Daniel.

Do make sure there is no Acronis bootable media still in the device tray.
Did you install the "optional" Startup Recovery Manager?

Thank you for your answer. No I don't have external drives connected. Only 2 internal drives.

Daniel,
When you installed True Image, did you also install the Startup Recovery Manager which is optional. This is merely a question--not an implication something you should have done.
Regarding the two internal disks. Describe the disks. For example do both have operating systems on them so you can choose which to boot from; or is only one disk bootable?
Perhaps it might help if you were to post a screen attachment of your Windows Disk Management Console which illustrates the type and placement of all partitions.

GroverH,
I didn't install the Startup Recovery Manager. About the two internal disks, only one is bootable and I use both of them for about 3 years without any problems. Troubles started as soon as True Image 2013 was installed.
Please find enclosed a screen attachment including the information's about both disks (Acronis True Director 2010).
Thank you very much for your help.
Daniel.

Perhaps the computer just got confused.
Do this and the actual procedure may vary with your computer.
You need to go into the Bios and change the boot order so it is correct.
The first listing should be the CD/DVD device
The second listing should be the boot drive
The third listing should be the data drive.
Your bios should indicate the method used to move the device position up and down. It may be the page up/down key or an F key, etc.
The boot sequence is controlled by the position in the listing.
Once you make the changes , normally you press the F10 key to save the changes.
These changes may involve two screens such as the boot sequence (CD or hard drive)
and another screen where you choose the boot disk or the data disk..

Acronis also changes the BIOS Boot sequence for me. I have 2 SATA HDD, one set as primary, system, boot and the other as logical. The primary is set in BIOS as master and the logical is set as Slave. The boot sequence in BIOS is manually set and SAVED by me to be Master in BIOS. However, after running a backup, Acronis will change the sequence in BIOS to be the Slave as first boot sequence. As a result, I have to go back into BIOS setup and reset the boot BIOS sequence.

BJT1024,
Which of the two disks is marked as 'active'?
