Acronis True Image WD Edition - bootmgr is missing - Windows 7

Thread needs solution

I speak Russian. translate by Google:

There used to be Windows Vista and this program helps to regain the image with Windows.

I bought a computer with windows 7 HomePremium x64 SP1.

Downloaded to the hard drive manufacturer's website the latest version (14192) Acronis True Image WD Edition

http://support.wdc.com/product/downloaddetail.asp?swid=119&wdc_lang=ru

Hard drive1 is divided into 2 sections: Windows (C :) and Documents (D :) - in addition to the hidden partition that was created by the operating system.

Did the image of the operating system partition (C :) for the hard disk2, made a boot disk with Acronis.

I decided to restore the partition (C :) from the image. Loaded with LiveCd Acronis and did it. After restarting the computer gave:

bootmgr is missing

On the Internet found a topic where asked this question on your program, but the solutions are not found.

https://www.google.ru/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&ie=UTF-8#lr=l…

Insert the disk with Windows 7 and choose to restore the download.

Windows booted normally.

But earlier in Windows Vista, the error is not issued. What am I doing wrong?

Windows.

(14192) Acronis True Image WD Edition

http://support.wdc.com/product/downloaddetail.asp?swid=119&wdc_lang=ru

Acronis.

bootmgr is missing

https://www.google.ru/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&ie=UTF-8#lr=l…

Windows

Normally the hidden System Reserved partition is marked as the "Active" partition on a system with Windows 7 installed.

Since you only backed up the "C" partition, and then restored it via the Acronis Rescue Media (bootable CD), it is possible that the "C" partition was marked as the "Active" partition instead of the hidden System Reserved partition.

If you have Windows 7 installation media or a Windows 7 System Recovery media, you can boot to it and run Startup Recovery selecting a command prompt and run the DISKPART command line utility to mark the System Reserved partition as "Active" again.

I would recommend backing up the hidden System Reserved partition, as well as the "C" drive when creating your backup.

When restoring the two partitions, be sure that the System Reserved partition is restored first and the partition is marked as "Active", then restore the "C" partition.

Check (open) Windows Disk Management to view and verify how your system partitions are set up, and how partitions are currently marked (Active, Boot, System, ect.).

This information is good to have in case you have additional problems.

Same question as the OP has.

I am wondering why this problem persists, when it has been going on since at least 2010? See http://forum.acronis.com/forum/3697

Just over the weekend I replaced the drive in my laptop (Toshiba, Vista 32-bit OS) with a much larger drive, using the free Acronis WD Edition. I printed out the relevant portions of the user guide

http://support.wdc.com/download/notes/atiwduserguide_14192/ATIH2010WD_u…

and believe I followed all of the steps in section 9.2.2 "Recovering a disk with a hidden partition" to a tee, including making sure to back-up the hidden Toshiba system partition to a new partition of the same size (actually, the original hidden was 1.465 GB, and Acronis would only let me create a new partition sized 1.466), and steps 10-12 to back-up and recover the MBR and track 0. Everything about the back-up and the restore said that it had completed successfully, yet the first time I tried to boot from the new larger HDD, I got the "BOOTMGR not found" error.

I was able to fix it by using my original manufacturer-provided system restore CDs, and running MS Start Repair twice in a row. But I fail to understand why this problem has been going on for so long and makes it so difficult to replace the HDD.

James F, please note that I understand you are a volunteer and I am not angry and trying to pick on you, I just wish somebody from Acronis and/or WD would do something about this. If I ever want to replace a HDD again, I am going to use a different product to back-up and recover the HDD. This was just way too frustrating.
