Nonstop Backup (Acronis True Image Home 2010): Disk Space for Backup higher than for data to be saved

Thread needs solution

I am working with Win 7, 64 bit and have activated Acronis True Image Home 2010 Nonstop Backup. The volume/partition I want to save, originally needs about 462 GB of disk space. I use an independent internal hard disk to save the nonstop backup, but the disk space necessary for nonstop backup is much higher than the partition that is saved. The folder "Time Explorer Storage", which contains the nonstop backup, has a size of about 699 GB. That is a factor of about 1.5 more space for the nonstop backup as for the partition to be saved.

- What is the reason for the discrepancy between the partition to be saved and the disk space needed for the nonstop backup?
- How can I limit the disk space used for the nonstop backup in order to prevent overflow of my saving volume?

Hello Georg,

Let me assist you.

1. The thing is that sometimes the amount of storage required for NonStop Backup is larger, since it needs to store temporary files of the protected partition too. To avoid this situation, you can exclude some temp files or Windows pagefile from the backup.

2. Unfortunately, currently it's impossible to limit the storage space used for Online Backup in the current version of the software, however, we'll surely implement this feature in future versions of Acronis True Image.

Please reply to this thread if you have any questions.

Thank you.

So has anything happened on this subject in the last 3 years?
My Nonstop Backup 2013 has 259 Files, 1 Folders on an external hard drive.
The backup files takes up 78.3 GB (84,077,596,672 bytes)
The space allocated on the disk is 254 GB (273,718,123,977 bytes)
NSB appears to be reserving over 3x the disk space for its temporary files.
