Question on restoring image to a larger hard drive - will space be lost?

Thread needs solution

Hi guys,
I've got a question.
I have a 320 Gig hard drive which I made an image of (my laptop).
Hard drives are cheap now so I bought a 500 gig drive for a great price.
Now, if I go to restore the image onto the 500 gig drive, will I lose 180 gigs with Acronis 2013?

I ask this because yeeeeaaaars ago, I used Acronis to backup my 120 gig laptop hard drive. I then bought a 320 gig drive and used Acronis to restore the image to it. Problem though was that after the restore process, that 320 gig drive literally became a 120 drive and I lost 200 gigs!!
I emailed acronis and I had to download a program and go through some process to get that 200 gigs back.

I just want to make sure that this doesn't happen again with Acronis 2013.

Thanks!
DL

You will not lose that additional space, but there is a special restore procedure to use to assign the additional free space to your chosen partition(s).

Check out the many user guides and tutorials in the left margin of this forum, particularly Getting Started and Grover's True Image Guides which are illustrated with step-by-step screenshots.

I think the procedure I mentioned is found in Grover's backup and restore guides http://forum.acronis.com/forum/29618
