Restoring a disk image to a different machine.

Thread needs solution

I found this statement in a review of ATI 2014

"All of this can be yours for $49.99, while the new True Image Premium (which adds Dynamic Disk support, and can restore your backups to a different PC) is priced at $79.99."

Do I read this correctly - a backup image from a given PC can only be restored to that PC (unless you pay more)?

One of the main uses I see for ATI 2014 is migrating an existing disk complete with OS, installed programs, data, desktop etc. to a replacement machine, be that for reasons of fire, theft, flood, earthquake, volcanic activity, etc. Is this possible with the $50 version? and if so, exactly what is the extra functionality in the $80 version?

If you want to restore the image to a different machine, you need the premium version. Restoring in the same machine, even on a new disk, doesn't required the premium version.

The premium version includes what was, in previous versions, in the Plus Pack: the Universal Restore feature. That feature allows you to slipstream low level drivers (those necessary for the new machine) as the image (of the old machine) is restored.

Having just repaired a machine where the motherboard, cpu and one of the DDR3 sticks had blown I can vouch this works brilliantly (at least it did for me)
The hard drive was okay but of course trying to boot from it on a new machine where there were old drivers just caused the machine to hang.
This wasn't my own PC so I created a backup using a USB hub and restored from that. The restore asked for the drivers I needed and we never looked back. Okay once he had saved everything he needed from the machine I suggested a full OS re-installation but without True Image we wouldn't have even got to that position.
