Windows 8 unable to boot from recovery DVD despite secure boot being disabled

Thread needs solution

Hi. I'm using the trial version of Acronis True Image 2014 on a Windows 8 Pro, 64 bit HP-Envy machine. I've created the bootable media and, after visiting several other support forums, found I needed to disable Secure boot. I've done this yet when I try to boot from the recovery disk all I get is a black screen with a single unblinking cursor.

Has anyone come across this issue? Do you have any suggestions.

Thanks
David

David,

You shouldn't have to disable secure boot when using the 2014 recovery media. Do you get to the Acronis Loading..... message or the True Image menu at all?

What processor is your machine using?

I recall there have been problems booting with the Surface tablets, some Sony and Samsung machines. I think the 64 bit UEFI was the problem here, but not totally certain.

I would suggest contacting Support as you have support for the trial period and see if they have any suggestions. I'm assuming TI installs on the PC OK, in which case I suggest making an Acronis report (via the Help menu) as the Support people might ask for it.

If bios/UEFI has a setting for legacy boot, try that setting and see if you can boot from the boot cd. Is so, then do the restore and reset bios/uefi when done.
