Recovery fails - Index corrupted

Thread needs solution

I have a very serious and urgent problem. My laptop hanged completely during the configuration of the last windows update. As usually when the system gets corrupt, I recover the image of the last good version. However, the recovery fails with the message "Index corrupted".

Additional information:

  • The verification of the image is OK;
  • I reinstalled (Windows 8 Pro), which went fine, and I reinstalled True Image, which went fine too. However, the problem persists.
  • I attached the log file of the failed recovery attempt.
  • Support came with a solution to try it with Acronis Universal Restore. I don't think this is the solution. Besides, I have to purchase extra software, what I don't want.
  • I upgraded from TI 2013 to TI 2014 recently.
  • A strange thing is that I have several images backuped to an external USB hard disk. All these images give the same error. I have some older images which are stored on a NAS and these recover well (however, the last from March), even when I copy them to the external USB Hard Disk. On the other hand, when I copy the failing images originated at USB external Hard Disk to another medium, the recovery failure remains.

What can be wrong and how to solve?

Hi Jan,

Can you mount the image on the computer?

Some other experience after several recovery tries. I am not sure, but it seems that images, created by TI version 5551, are still recoverable, but as of TI version 6514 are not.

Note that:

  • the validation of all these versions succeeded;
  • all these versions can be mounted;
  • recovery of individual files from all these versions is possible (however main links cannot be copied).
  • There are more hard disks in the laptop. I tried to recover the image on the other drive, however, the same error.

Try to mount the image in read/write mode, run chkdsk /r on the mounted image, unmount the image. See if it works.

It worked, Pat. Thank you very much for the solution. It saves me a lot of time.

Jan.
