Help needed with Acronis True Image WD Edition
Dear Acronis staff,
I recently purchased a new 2TB WD Green drive and from the website downloaded this software at their suggestion and also from the recommendation of other WD users.
Both the new drive and my old 320GB Seagate drive are installed in my computer via SATA cables and are powered and in Device Manager they are shown as working correctly.
I put Acronis True Image on a USB drive so that I could run it outside of Windows. Upon starting the clone process I receive the error "Failed to write data to the disk" With various messages such as "sector 2,048 of harddisk '2'" and "operation has failed 0x590001". Despite these errors, I can skip and continue the process.
The first time I tried to run the clone process I left it running and went away for approximately 90 minutes. When I came back it appeared that the process had ended itself and Windows had booted. The new HDD was untouched and still displayed as unallocated.
I ran a Check Disk and it showed no errors.
I tried a second time and got similar error messages.
It continued and once on the Operation Progress window I thought it looked as if it was going to be fine. It began saying "Remaining: 11 hours" but then after a while changed to 23 hours, then back down to 11 hours again. This time I stayed by the computer and after about 3 hours of waiting it still displayed "Remaining: 11 hours" and the progress bar had achieved maybe 5% - but that had happened relatively soon into the 3 hour period.
Both drives are in fine working order with no errors.
I have looked elsewhere and people seem to think that the clone process only takes around half an hour roughly.
I had opted to ghost/clone my current HDD to save the time it would take of reinstalling Windows 7 from fresh and all the associated drivers and programs, and yet this has ended up wasting hours of time.
What do I need to do to make this process run as it should?
Thank you.

Oh I see. So did they have a part in making the software, too?
I did a chkdsk /r as previously mentioned and it didn't have any bad sectors etc.
I just thought there might be a common issue with the WD version. Having read many threads all over the net I am none the wiser. I just want to perform a one-time clone and it's somehow a real PITA :/

It's called "WD Edition" because it's a Western Digital product. It uses Acronis technology, but it's customized for Western Digital and distributed exclusively with Western Digital products.

OK thanks for the clarification.
I used a trail of the proper Acronis product and it worked very well first time and only took around 55 minutes. Excellent product. The WD one was just broken.

The WD edition does work, but it's based on a four-year-old version of True Image and has some limitations, such as working only on WD drives. I have several Western Digital drives, but I don't use my free WD edition backup software as it's too limited.

Hi Tuttle;
I too am in a quandary on the use of the Acronis program on my WD drives. When I use the present version I purchased this past week, I start the program as the user manual indicates and when it starts up there is a message displayed about calculating remaining time and about two minutes later another message is super-imposed on the screen stating that restart is required and if it is not re-started the process will be cancelled. Well the first time I followed their directions and the computer rebooted but it rebooted into a blank screen with only the power indicators on the monitor and tower illuminated. After 16 hours of waiting, and having seen nor heard any activity, I powered the computer down and rebooted. It booted back up normally but there was nothing on the new HDD. So what is your suggested solution in my case? I hate to purchase another program that I will not have success with. sgb

I can't help you. As I said, I don't use the free WD edition software.
