Cloning Windows 8 Laptop old drive is unsupported in USB mode

Thread needs solution

I am trying to clone an Asus X55c laptop with W8. I have put in a new WD black 500gb drive to replace the old Hitachi 500gb drive. If I connect the new drive in the laptop and the old in the USB connection (SABRENT adapter) the old drive is seen as unsupported. If I reverse the connected hard drives, I see them both as usable. As I proceed with this scenario I get no drives available for the destination, which is stated in the Laptop cloning procedures.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks...

How do you start the clone operation? Which version of ATI are you using?

I guess no one can help with this issue..really stuck here..I have tried cloning and now backing up the old drive but I cannot get the laptop to see the old drive once I switch it over to the usb connection. "unsupported" its a basic GPT.

One option you can try is to use the "Add new disk" option before the clone.

The clone should be done from the TI Boot CD.

Put the new disk inside the computer before cloning.
Boot the CD
Do the add disk option.

Using the Add disk option will provide an initialization and the disk should made a GPT and with all unallocated space.
When doing the clone, if both old and new same size, I would use the manual mode and use the "AS IS" as the move method.

I have a Sabrent usb device and it has been a problem about 50 % of the time and replaced twice.
When this is an issue I do no know.
I have not used Win8; and for my transfer device, I like to use the Thermaltake BlacX.
I use BlacX as the host for my backups and restores.

I would suggest you look at the source disk when viewed from Windows Disk Management plus as viewed in Diskpart
You need to know the partition sequence of the source disk as it relates to the hidden partitions, etc. so you can compare with the final result if you have issues.

Following the clone, you may need to use the Windows Recovery CD and use the Startup Repair option.
