Cannot mount from Windows Explorer

Thread needs solution

Using ATIH in Windows 8 with ATIH 2013, having just moved from XP. When I need to restore just one file or two, it was often easiest just to mount a backup and copy it back to my system. I usually find the backup TIB and mount it using right-click context menu to do this. In Windows 8, I'm finding when I use the context menu, it doesn't do anything. There is no error. No prompt. The context menu just closes. I can, however, start ATIH and using the Tools and Utilities tab mount using Image Mounting.

I searched the forum to see if anyone else had the same problem, and while I can find threads of people who can't mount at all or are having trouble mounting a particular image, I can't find anyone with the same problem (only having mounting problems from the context menu). While this is generally an OK work around to use the main program, I'm wondering if this is a known problem and if there's a fix. If there is not a fix, is there a way to remove this from my context menu so I won't try it in the future ;) ?

Thanks

I don't have win8 or 8.1 so not able to test for you.

This link might be another option.

In addition:
In Win7, the context menu has the TrueImage as a folder and then has a sub-folder named Archive and the Mount option is listed there and it works on Win7.

Also, when RIGHT click any tib file, in Win7, you have the another option which is Open in new Window.
The partitions contents of the backup is listed
and you can browse to the location of the file to be copied and copy or drag a file/folder from the backup onto the new location.

Same thing in Win8. Up until I get to the "it works." That is, the context menus are there. It simply doesn't do anything when I'm logged in as admin account. When logged in under standard account, it triggers UAC, and I enter admin pw, but then does nothing.

The second method of just using "Open in new Window" it responds with error msgbox saying "An error occurred while opening the backup archive. Cannot continue the operation because the backup is corrupted, or it is being used by another process, or you do not have enough permissions to perform the operation." Yet, when I go into ATIH, it mounts just fine.

So basically I am unable to mount or brows the TIB through Explorer. I can only get to it through the main program. This is doable, just not as convenient. It does seem to be an incompatibility with Windows 8, though.

From Windows Explorer tib storage folder with TrueImage closed,
try double clicking on the tib backup file to be read for files.

Sorry, I wasn't clear or was incorrect in my earlier post. If I use context menu/True Image/Archive/Mount, it behaves the same as the right-click menu. If logged in as admin account, it does nothing. If logged in as regular user it triggers UAC, then does nothing.

When I use either double-click or context menu/Open in new Window or if I double-click I get message box saying "An error occurred while opening the backup archive. Cannot continue the operation because the backup is corrupted, or it is being used by another process, or you do not have enough permissions to perform the operation."

From within TrueImage, everything works.

Just to follow-up here. Since posting, it is now working to browse using the right click and "Open in new window" item or double-clicking. I'm not sure what made the browse feature start working. I am still unable to mount the images as drives from the context menu.

Well, to follow-up once again, this feature has stopped working for some of my backups since I upgraded to 2014. Argh! Now, the only way to browse is to mount from ATIH. The context menu options do not work at all for some backups of my old computers. For some of them it says "An error occurred while opening the backup archive. Cannot continue the operation because the backup is corrupted, or it is being used by another process, or you do not have enough permissions to perform the operation." I have validated the archive. May open thread on 2014 forum.

Uh oh. Just upgraded the computer to Windows 8.1 and now mounting is missing from both Windows and the Acronis software. I cannot mount any TIB files.
