SSD to SSD cloning problems
I have Windows 7 ultimate 64-bit on an ASUS P6X58D motherboard, i7 3.3GHz cpu and 12GB of RAM. I am using Acronis True Image 2013 build 6514 to clone from my main Samsung 840 SSD hard drive to a Samsung 830 SSD drive (both 256GB drives). Both drives are on Marvel 91xx 6G controllers on the motherboard.
My intent is to have an emergency backup that I can switch to in case of a main drive failure, and I don't want to have to restore an image, or anything else. I just want the spare disk ready to go in case of emergencies. So I am trying to use the clone utility to make a copy from the 840 to the 830 drive.
I have used Acronis 2013 to clone the main SSD to an standard SATA hard drive in an external USB drive caddy without any problems. However this is a fairly slow process that can take well over an hour. When I clone from the newer 840 SSD to the older 830 SSD the process is very fast, about 20 minutes. However, every time there are disk errors on the copy. The copy will often boot, but with errors and problems. I thought at first that there might be an issue with my setup, but then I tested the ability to clone with the free Samsung cloning utility that came with SSD. This process went very well on the first try from within Windows, and the copy boots perfectly with no drive errors or problems.
So obviously it is not an issue with the hardware. Are there any known issues with TrueImage 2013 cloning between SSDs using 6GB/s controllers? I have tried 4 or 5 times, with a variable number of errors on the copy each time.
Thanks.
