Disk Clone from 350GB sata to 250GB SSD

Thread needs solution

Hi all,

wonder if you can help?

I have cloned a laptop 300GB Sata drive onto a SSD 250GB drive using True Image Home 2014 full version. To do this I have a Communicator D2 (external USB Caddy that can hold 2x2.5 or 3.5 disks). I have removed the laptop HDD and placed it into the "source bay" on the dock (connected to my Win8 Desktop), and the SSD into the "destination bay" on the dock and ran the true image from my desktop win8 machine as that is where the software is installed. The clone seemed to go through fine with no issues.
2 partitions were copied (System Reserved and a Primary Partition) in disk manager, they look the same as the drive I have copied.. i.e.

Source: Disk 1 - E: System Reserved 350MB NTFS Healthy (Active, Primary Partition)
Source: Disk 1 - F: 297.75GB NTFS Healthy (Primary Partition)

Destination: Disk 2 - G: 350MB NTFS Healthy (Active, Primary Partition)
Destination: Disk 2 - (no drive letter) 232.54GB NTFS Healthy (Primary Partition)

but when I place the new SSD back into the laptop, the laptop is not seeing it as bootable as if the drive does not contain any boot partition? if I place it back into the desktop USB dock then I can see the data on it fine, I have compared the old drive and new drive file/folder structure and they are identical? What am I missing please?

Thanks

Mike.

Not familiar with your cloning setup but the method suggested by Acronis can be found inside link 1 below, index item 3-RR.

Basically, the method suggested by Acronis is to
place the target inside the computer.
Place the source disk elsewhere such as the docking unit.
Boot from the TI Recovery CD
Perform the clone.
Shutdown and disconnect
Reboot with only the new target attached.
