A question about recovering partition backup from a non-recognized NAS (drive letter required for backup)

Thread needs solution

Win 8.1. UEFI BIOS. Have made recovery (boot) DVD.

However, I get the feeling that if I ever have to restore to, say, a new SSD and boot off the DVD, I won't be able to see the NAS drive.

(1) Is this true?
(2) If so, will it work if I use a different computer to move my latest full + differential backup to a USB 3.0 external drive and restore from there?
(3) In the past I have restored files from a file backup. Can I restore files and directories from a partition backup or just the partition? This is preparatory to this question: should I also be doing a file-type backup?

Thank you, whoever you are, for clearing up these mysteries.

Jerry, the guy who has backed up lots, but never recovered!

It isn't a guessing game - boot to your rescue media and initiate a dummy restore. You will have the choice of Computers Near Me or NAS something or other. Can you see your NAS? If so you are OK. If not it's a network problem and could be due to you connecting wirelessly to the router. You could then try a cable connection as that is far more likely to be successful. If neither work you will have to either move your backup to a drive the rescue media can see or create a new backup in such a location.
