The Acronis Nonstop Backup Service service did not shut down properly after receiving a pre-shutdown control.

Thread needs solution

Every so often my Windows 8.1 computer hangs on shutdown and I have to force it off using the power switch. After restarting the next day, in Windows Event Viewer I can see this message,

'The Acronis Nonstop Backup Service service did not shut down properly after receiving a pre-shutdown control.'

Problem is the Non-Stop Backup Service shouldn't be running as I don't use it and it doesn't appear in the list of running programs or services when I check. The only cure I can come up with is to uninstall True Image 2014!

The only Acronis services running are:
Acronis Scheduler 2
Acronis Scheduler Helper
Acronis TIB Mounter Monitor
Acronis True Image Monitor.

Any ideas?

You should see Acronis Non Stop Backup Service in the list of services. If you don't find it there, open regedit.exe and navigate to HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\afcdpsrv. You will see the DisplayName is "Acronis Nonstop Backup Service." If you change the Start value from 2 to 4, the service will be disabled on reboot.
