Acronis True Image 2014 extremely slow to back up

I have been using Acronis True Image 2014 for many months, on two computers.

In the last few days, the version on my Lenovo V570 laptop does not back up properly.

When I start the software, it tells me that it will take more than 5 days to back up. It used to do it in under 2 hours (for a full backup).

Running the latest version of True Image 2014 (AcronisTrueImage2014_6673_en-US.exe).

Both computers Windows 8.1 64 bit; both have 16 gb of ram.

Both backing up to separate external hard disks. Lots of room on the disks. My laptop has a 1tb ssd with about 640 gb free space.

The backups are to external media?
Two hours is terrible long. I don't remember taking more than 15-20 minutes, but I don't have half the bloat most do and I only run W7.
