Migrating Windows 8.1 BIOS boot environment to a 3TB HDD

Thread needs solution

I have a 500gb disk with 3 partitions. The boot environment is BIOS. I would like to migrate my windows 8.1 system C partition to a 3TB disk.

I can't seem to navigate the instructions as it bogs down into reserved partitions and a ton of other stuff.

My installation has no special partitions, hidden or otherwise. The 2 extra partitions are just old archive partitions for data that I do not want to migrate.

I would greatly prefer to have a clean single 3TB partition with windows on it without any fancy drivers to deal with extending a 2TB limitation. (I have a phobia about extended disk manager software)

My computer has a UEFI boot system but as I pointed out above it appears that the system is installed to BIOS.

I tried once and the new partition will not boot saying its missing MBR.

Not sure if you can migrate a Windows install from BIOS to UEFI or if I missed doing something along the way. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I guess should add my Windows 8.1 is the 64bit version.

Found a solution: Take new 3TB drive make clean install of Windows on a UEFI GPT partition then recover backup over clean install without including the MBR
