Acronis TI 2011 Home won't work anymore

Thread needs solution

I used TI 2011 on Windows XP without any problems for a long time and it did everything as advertised.

I bought 2012 and it made such a mess of things I abandoned it.

I've been trying ever since to re-install 2011 with no luck. I'm confident all references have been removed from the registry. Removed through Windows Control Pane, and RevoUninstall.

Re-installation appears to be done successfully. I get a message to that effect.

But .. when I try to run it, I get an error message" E000101F4: Unable to open (initialize) Computer, etc." - a big long message in an Error box I don't comprehend.

I bought TI 2014 for my Windows 8.1 machine, but I think I must have a second copy to run on the XP computer. I don't mind doing so, but the question then arises, can I restore my XP file backups onto my Win 8.1 machine?

I see that TI 2014 is supposed to transform Windows Backup (ntbackup) .bkf files into TI files. Can I use the ones I've been making on the XP and restore them to the Win 8.1 machine using TI 2014 if I copy them over to the Win 8.1 computer.

Lots of questions, All could be solved easily if I could make TI 2011 run again on my XP.

Thanks

On the XP PC:

Uninstall ATI. Then run the Acronis True Image Cleanup Utility for 2010-2014: http://kb.acronis.com/content/34876
Be careful to follow all instructions, including not allowing the utility to reboot until you've made the Registry edits.
Disable Secure Zones and Acronis Startup Recovery Manager before uninstalling True Image.

On the Win 8 PC:

Do not restore disk or partition images from the XP PC to the Win8 PC, as obviously that would wipe out the Win8 system and replace it with XP. You can restore data files from the old XP backups to the new PC, either by running a restore or by mounting the images or by browsing them in Windows Explorer.

Thanks.

But with an IQ of 64 (or less), I'm in the dark about "Secure zone" and "Acronis Startup Recovery Manager" - what they are and where they are and how to remove - or avoid - them. All I know how to do is go to XP Settings > Control Panel > Add - Remove Programs. Sometimes it works, but I think I've seen instances of everything concerning a program NOT being removed.

Please bear with me. How do I "disable" Secure Zones and Acronis Startup Recovery Manager?

When I've removed TI 2011 as above, will I then be able to reinstall it on the XP so that it works ?

When it died, I deleted all of my old backups and I need to make new ones to recover on the Win 8 machine. The old backups would be very out of date today. and worthless anyway.

Thanks again.

If you never enabled the Secure Zone or Acronis Startup Recovery Manager, then you don't need to disable them.

Yes, after following the cleanup instructions (all of them!), you can then reboot and install ATI again.

I have a Secure Zone showing in Acronis Disk Director, but don't know what it's for.

Not related to Acronis True Image installation?

Thanks.
