Trueimage hangs in consolidation

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I'm running a backup. I've set it to automatically consolidate after two backups, and it starts doing so okay. The problem is that it does not finish the consolidation procedure. Instead it hangs with the consolidation apparently complete with the processor running at 33% use purely on Trueimage alone. Left after four hours it still hadn't finished on a 65 gigabyte file, despite reading 102% complete.

Clearly there is an error here. If the consolidation feature is unreliable I suggest you remove it from Trueimage. I've had this error consistently now with several files and its really irritating. At other times the consolidation procedure works as expected, so I've no idea what causes this issue.

Has anyone else had problems with consolidation? Is it really worth bothering with as a feature if its broken, or is it just me? How do I fix this bug?

Excerpt from knowledge Base, this may be of some help:

Symptoms

You are a backup to Backup Location. After the progress bar reaches 100%, the program is still performing some operations, but no further progress can be seen. The HDD led is blinking, showing the HDD activity. The program log of Acronis True Image is not complete.

Cause

Acronis True Image is not freezing actually. It is busy with managing archives in Backup Location.

After the backup is created, the program checks for quota violations. The backup management is performed by the program by either consolidating incremental/differential backups that belong to the same backup chain or deleting the archives that violate quota limit if the consolidation is not possible. When the program consolidates the archives, it actually creates a new archive, associates the created file with the rest of the chain and then deletes the original files. Therefore, consolidation requires some time to be completed.
Solution

Please wait until the management is finished. The process can take as much time as required to create new full backup archive with all the data stored in the whole chain.

For myself, I refuse to use any consolidation options which merge date. The example below show how to use automatic cleanup whereby the program deletes the oldest chain after the program reaches your preset goal of how many chains to keep which is
"store no more than X recent versions"backup chains".
The cleanup is immediate and no merging of data--just a straight deletion of the oldest chain.
Here is an example of several type backups using automatic cleanup. The use of any of these will require the starting of a new task. Signature link 2-A can be of assistance.
