Startup Recovery
I have activated this feature. When I press F11 at startup, there is some error msg that appears. Unfortunately it disappears quickly and the Acronis TI Mask appears. Then everything freezes. Mouse and Keyboard dont function. I am on XP SP3. Any help would be appreciated

No reason, other than ignorance. A while back I had a crash. I was then using an older TI but manged to sucessfuly restore everything perfectly. It all went so smoothly that I thought after updating to TI2010, I should just continue with that procedure. Would be grateful for any elaboration on other methods ;)
Thanks

Most users nowadays use an external drive to hold the Backups. They also create the bootable True Image Rescue cd.
If you cannot perform an actual Restore to a spare hard drive then the next best thing is to boot with the Rescue cd and perform a Validate on the Backup. This ensures that at least the Rescue CD will "see" your external drive and the Image on it.
This does away with the need for the SRM and the Secure Zone, which, if your system drive crashes will also take your SZ with it.
Of course, the external drive could also go kaput, but at least you could disconnect it from the system when not needed.

I have a ext-drive and had made a back up there in any case. After you suggested the rescue-cd, I wanted to see how the it worked (so I would be familiar with the operation should I ever need it) and tried to boot from the cd. Windows however just started normally. I went into my BIOS to check whether the boot sequence was right. During this backwards and forwards, probably due to my overriding the shut down, my whole system crashed. Windows didnt start and I hadnt worked out the issue with the rescue cd. At the end I had to I reinstall windows, reinstall TI and managed to restore the backup. What a mission!! ANyways it worked. So now my question is why didnt the cd boot? ;)
Thanks for your help

If you're sure the Bios boot sequence has the CD ahead of the hard drive, try the CD in another computer.
BTW, if the version of TI is 2010 then you have to keep an eye on the boot process when booting from the CD. Reason being that when the CD boots, some "genius" programmer has it defaulting to start Windows and you have 15 seconds to change it to boot into True Image.
A very stupid feature, IMHO.

OK, so I am progressing. Reburnt the Rescue Media. Now I am able to boot. I then have the 3 options TI, Report and WIN. I clicked on TI (mouse was working fine) then Acronis startup console opens (black screen) and I am still getting the error msg. that things cant be loaded. The msg is only displayed quickly (all I manage to see was //lib.mod ) then the TI Module starts, and I am back to my original problem - the mouse and keyboard freeze. grrrrr!

I have solved the problem. I had to download a new version of BackUp Media from the website that includes USB mouse driver. Pity there isnt a sticky in the Forum regarding this.
