Cloning Issues

Thread needs solution

I cloned my main hard drive about a year ago and was attempting to create a newer cloned version of the drive but it keeps failing can you tell me if I need to obliterate everything that is on the destination drive in order to make a new clone or should it just overwrite all data?

It will start calculating time to clone and then just sends a message that clone failed.

Clone should be performed only after booting from the ATI bootable Rescue Media. But, better and safer would be to create a full disk mode backup and restore it to the new drive.

Guess I am a little confused.

So are you saying I cannot make a true image of my HD and then if it fails just change from slave to primary and it will be like nothing ever happened.

It sounds like you are saying I need a bootable cd to get machine started then restore from that point.

You can make a direct clone. But, you should not leave both disks in the PC when you boot to Windows. Windows does not like to see two OS drives, and will render one unbootable which could be your primary drive.

Backup and restore is safer, and better protection since it allows you to maintain multiple full backups on a single disk. When you need to recover, such as to a replacement drive, just boot from the Rescue Media which can be on CD or USB flash drive.
