space used after recovery

Thread needs solution

I am using Acronis True Image Home 2009 I was wondering if someone could explain the following.

I have reinstalled Windows and with all its updates, it uses 4.7 g on the drive. I have made a backup - it takes up 1.39 g. If I recover that backup, it now uses approx 10 g.
Why is it using more space than the 4.7 g???

Thanks for any thoughts.

Hello Gery,

Thank you for posting your question, I will be happy to help. Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response.

Most probably, you have restored the archive to a partition of a larger capacity or you have specified the appropriate setting during the recovery. The program allows to resize the destination partition. You can perform the recovery again, you should drag the slider to make the partition smaller while managing the operation. Or you can use any partitioning software to decrease the size of the partition.

If you experience any difficulties in applying the mentioned operations, please download Acronis Report utility available here and run it, create a report and attach the file to your next post. Please compress the Acronis Report output file into an archive (e.g. with WinZip) and attach to your post by browsing for the archive.

This would provide us with detailed information on the hard disk partition structure.

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.

If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other question do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.

 Thank you.

Gerry,
Can you use Windows Explorer and examine your disk in detail. Look to see if you have a complete duplicate restore. Perhaps do a file search for the TI "Scripts" folder or some other personal document. You should only find one copy.

When restoring your system partition, this is a partition restore and the resulting partition size should be exactly the same as when the backup was created. Also, when restoring your system partition, it is best done when booted from the TI Rescue CD.

You might also repeat the restore again and check the result. Check to make sure the partition is not resized.
