Hard Drive - Dying But Not Yet Dead

Thread needs solution

My primary drive reports S.M.A.R.T. = Bad. It continues to work, but I have no idea for how long.

I have current True Image 2014 image and incremental backups. I also have a boot-disk.

I liked at the features in TI 2015, and it looks like a meaningful upgrade, so I bought it. It failed to upgrade, and I've been informed why, and I will fix that issue. However....

The question is, are the benefits of 2015 that much greater than 2014 that I should install it and have it get an image (providing the hard drive lasts long enough), or should I just stick with attempting to mount the TI 2014 image?

Any thoughts?

1. You say your drive is failing. If so, stop using it, now! The more you use it, the more likely it will fail disastrously and you will lose data.

2. There is no point installing new software to a failing drive.

3. Boot from the ATI bootable Rescue Media. Make a full disk backup: a full "stand-alone" backup (not an incremental, and selecting all partitions on the drive (even hidden partitions).

If you're lucky, it may work and you may be able to backup everything. If not, then you'll have to rely on your incremental backups and I don't know whether you included all partitions in those.

Thanks, Tuttle. I have stopped using the bad hd. I also have a full image from not long ago. I have verified the archive, and all was good. Whew! I booted off the rescue cd and launched ATI, but it didnt recognise the new drive. Im thinking i need the Seagate tools to make the drive recognizable. That's my next step, after attempting a new, all inclusive image, but that's in the AM.. ..

UPDATE:
I was able to get another full image off the dying drive, and successfully put it on the new drive. Life is good! Now, to upgrade to 2015....
