Won't save automatic consolidation selection
I'm using ATI 2010 and have a disk backup defined to backup to a network drive. I can't seem to get it to remember the automatic consolidation options I select. It appears to save them, but when I edit the backup again they're lost.

I am currently evaluating ATI2010 for my office, and have this same issue. I cannot edit ANY options on a previously created backup task. I am selecting the backup task in the tasks & logs pane, right clicking, and choosing "edit" from the context menu. I can make changes, but when I click "next>" through to the end, or use the X to close the window, the software locks up.
I can create a new task without issue.
The only abnormal variable I can imagine is that I am specifying a mapped drive as the destination. I have tried by both mapping a local drive letter to the network location, as well as using the UNC location (i.e. "\\servername\sharename\"). The network drive does NOT require any authentication.
The backups are created successfully according to the task, I just can't edit the task.

I'm using ATI Home 2010 on Windows XP Pro SP3. I am having the same problem that Greg describes in his post. When I edit my existing task and click "Next", ATI locks up. I have to use Task Manager to terminate the program.
I submitted a support request for this on 10/14 and received a confirmation email, but have not received a solution from ATI Support yet.

I figured out what my problem was. In order to get my automatic consolidation options to save, I had to uncheck the option specifying stating "A new full backup overwrites the previous one" from the backup method screen. Makes sense to me now that I think about it.

Hello all,
Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.
Please do the following to resolve the issue with scheduling:
1. Download Acronis Scheduler, which is a special utility to update the scheduler service from;
2. Extract the downloaded file and run install.bat. The utility will automatically update the service;
3. Reboot the machine;
4. Recreate the scheduled tasks and check if you're able to edit them.
If this does not help, please perform the following actions:
- Download either the EXE file or ZIP archive;
- Open command prompt (Start -> Run -> cmd);
- Run schedmgr.exe
To get a list of scheduled tasks:
get list
To delete all scheduled tasks:
task zap
Then please recreate a task, it should help.
Thank you.

Sadly, after trying both actions described the results were exactly the same. After creating new tasks all the settings remained as I wanted except the automatic consolidation which would not save my setting of 4 backups.. On going back via Edit all options on the Automatic Consolidation were greyed out. I tried setting the other automatic options, even though I did not want them, but they were not saved either.
As a matter of interest if I let the scheduled task run it automatically only saves on backup, having deleted the existing backup. In response to an obvious question, yes I do have the box under Full on the Backup Method screen unticked. So why has it defaulted to automatic consolidation of 1?

I too have tried both methods offered by the Acronis Moderator but neither worked. In fact my scheduled task was not deleted, but I still could not edit it. I want a solution to this and am annoyed that Support have not got back to me following a separate approach ten days ago.

Best of luck. I am up to 15 email exchanges with support.
I think the problem is that, if you select to configure a task which is a Full backup then nothing you enter in Automatic Configuration is either saved or actioned. I want a series standalone backups which cannot be corrupted by a later backup by way of any consolidation. In my view a backup which contains either corrupted files, viruses or malware is useless.
In Acronis 2008, which I still have on my laptop (thank goodness) I can set the number of backups I want retained, with an automatic deletion of the oldest as a new one is created. It works perfectly. Unfortunately this was removed from Acronis 2009 and I had a large number of exchanges with Support before they surrended. In that version the Automatic Consolidation screen did not even come up unless you had selected Incremental or Differential. In Acronis 2010 the Automatic Consolidation screen comes up, it is just that anything you set there, if you set Full earlier, will not be saved or actioned when the task is run.
What I am getting is each backup file is added to those created previously and I have to manually remove the oldest.
Acronis Support is again attempting to find me a way to achieve a number of stand alone backups which will automatically be retained at a number I select. Since the whole philosophy of backing up to retain fall back alternatives if something goes wrong I just cannot understand why this is not this is not the basis of the program.

I confirm "off-line beginner" 2009 -- 12 -- 07. I have sent an Internet request and included a fileon this problem, on November 25, . I agree it may have some relation to specifying full b/ups . All the forum posts including my problem appeared to be attempting to exclusively use full b\ups. It appears a simple problem -- can we get a resolution. Dr Adrian Dunn Sydney Australia

I am still in an email skirmish with Support
Fortunately I have Acronis 11 installed on my laptop and it does what we both want 2010 to do.
Below is the content of my email to support today drawing it attention to how is was done in that version in the hope there might be a way to do this in 2010. Incidentally I had exactly the same unresolved problem in Acronis 2009. Silly me thought 2010 might make have made this entirely reasonable task again available.
"I repeat what I have said earlier that Acronis version version11 did this very adequately and I could set the number of Full (they were called Images in that version) backups I wanted maintained. This was done by Editing Backup Locations through selecting Tools/Management/Manage Backup Locations and there was a place to enter the number of backups and some other backup parameters."

Acronis Support has recognised that the program has a fault which prevents creating a series of full backups, untouched by any differential backup actions, and for which a chosen number can be maintained automatically with the oldest being deleted after a new one is created. A strategy proposed by support was proved to not work and accepted by them.
This was possible with Acronis 11 because you could configure the backup location. This was deleted from Acronis 2009 and still missing in Acronis 2010.
The issue has been passed to the program developers for possible inclusion in the next build, but don't hold your breath.

First of all, I would like to apologize for the delayed response in this thread. This issue with consolidation settings is the common one.
This task has been forwarded to our QA team and they were able to reproduce it. For now, this case is assigned to Development Team. We will do our best to fix it as soon as possible.
I will keep you updated.
Please do not hesitate to ask us if you have any questions.
