"Failed to read data from the disk"

Thread needs solution

I am getting this error when backing up my C drive. It jives the error 22 times (obviously different sector numbers for each error)

I have run Check Disk, which said it needed a repair which I did. However, the Acronis error continues and Check Disk shows no errors now.

Any idea how to proceed from here?

TIA

The disk smart data is below.

Run chkdsk /r on each partition of the drive. If there are hidden partitions, assign letters to them so you can chkdsk.
Also run a drive checking utility from the drive manufacturer, as those sometimes catch errors missed by chkdsk.

Sorry for the late reply but I didn't get any notification.

Thanks for that. I'll do as you say and report back once its all done.

What a day!!

I did the chkdsk /r on the drives, and it worked ...

... sort of

The repair worked OK but the desktop wouldn't load, icons missing etc etc. I tried to run Acronis from the boot disc, and it wouldn't run. So I tried booting to windows, and it wouldn't boot at all.

Repair? Nope

Restore? Nope

Nothing would work, so I eventually managed to re installed windows, then I could run the Acronis boot disc and restore the OS to a good previous point.

I haven't a clue what happened or why. Think I'll take up brain surgery, it's got to be easier. ;)

The short version is that your drive is failing.

I attached a screenshot of my current SMART data, they named the columns in a retarded fashion. Ignore the column that is called Current Value, the Raw Data column is what my drive is doing right now.

In particular compare IDs 5 and 9 ... you already have 22 reallocated sectors with only 3600 hours, meanwhile I have 0 after almost 9000 hours.

You will notice my ID 12 is very low, I typically leave the computer on 24/7.

Heck, my wife's has 9700 hours and has only been powered on 53 times :)

Thanks Daniel, I'll get hold of Kingston and see what they say.

Update.

I also emailed Amazon about this and they are sending a replacement SSD on Monday. Hopefully that will be all I need to finally fix this problem.

I have a SSD eraser on disk, so it will be clean before I return it.
