W7 Home Premium 64 bit Boot Issue

Thread needs solution

Hi All

Installed new SSD using True Image 2014 and all seemed OK until yesterday.

When I restarted my laptop yesterday it booted into the 'Windows Boot Manager’ screen, which says to choose an operating system to start, or press TAB to select a tool.
The OS listed are ‘Microsoft Windows 7’ & ‘Windows 7 Home Premium (recovered)’ and the Tools listed are ‘Windows Memory Diagnostic’.
If I go for ‘Windows 7 Home Premium (recovered)’ it starts up fine, but then if I restart I get the above again.
If I go for ‘Microsoft Windows 7’ or ‘Windows Memory Diagnostic’ it goes onto another window that says Windows failed to start etc. then tells me to insert my installation disk and repair.
When I boot using the disk it goes into the ‘System Recovery Options’ and it lists:
Operating System Partition Size Location
Microsoft Windows 7 0 MB (Unknow) Lo…
Windows 7 Home Premium… 231502 MB (C:) OS_Install
If I try and repair the first OS it says it cannot do this and to send to Microsoft.
If I try the second it says it has repaired but then when I restart it I get the same ‘Windows Boot Manager’ screen again.
Can anyone please help with this issue or advise as to where I might get help please?
Thanks for reading.

Its hard to say with certainty what the problem is exactly. it sounds like your OS (file system) might be corrupted, the partitioning on your disk is incorrect or that your Boot Configuration Data (BCD) is incorrect. The last is probably the case since you are being prompted to choose an operating system. This typically appears in a dual boot configuration, but you only have one OS and your machine does not appear to be detecting the location of the installation.

If you don't have a back up of this drive and data, I would focus on that first before attempting repairs or changes. Just slave the drive in another machine and capture your data.

To resolve this issue, you need to know the partitioning scheme of the disk, then ensure the BCD points to the correct partition for boot without pointers to another partition or OS. The data being modified resides on the System Reserved Partition, unless the drive you installed to was already partitioned. If this is true, the boot configuration is stored on the C:\ drive. If you don't have experience with this, it might be best to consult a professional.
