CLoning - wants to call new drive C: but what happens to my current drive C:

Thread needs solution

I'm trying to clone portions of my C drive on to a new SSD. I can get through the process up to the final verification.

I can't change the SSD drive partition to anything but C:. The dropdown list has other options, including AUTO, but none have an effect. The new drive letter remains C:

What happens if I start this clone? Certainly I can't have 2 C: drives (old drive and new SSD), can I?

I've been trying different programs to get this ssd up and running and have been extraordinarily frustrated in the process. I read I could use Paragon Software to migrate to the SSD. Failed 6 times with odd errors.

Now I'm trying Acronis, but am concerned about this drive naming business. I don't want to clone and have the old drive become unbootable and the new one unbootable too.

Any thoughts?

Oh, if anyone has better solutions to installing a new SSD other than a fresh install (no OS disks), I'd be happy to hear them.

Perhaps you are confusing the functions.

True Image has a specific clone function whereby the clone process copies one complete disk to another disk and both disks are identical.
Only one can be connected at first boot following the clone. Also, the clone process is best performed when booted from the TI Recovery CD.

Additionally, True Image has a backup function and a Recovery function. A disk image backup can be made and can be restored either overtop the existing source or to a new blank disk. The result will be a cloned copy of the original.

Caution: Any target will be overwritten by whatever you are using as the target.

Do a little more research before you mess up your source.

My signature links 3 below shows some examples of restoring a backup.
Important: If performing a backup, make sure ALL partitions are included within the backup, if you want to create a bootable new system disk.
My signature link 2-A shows how to create a disk image backup.
