Thread needs solution

Hi,

Just started using Acronis True Image 2015. I have it running on default settings, so full backup then 5 incrementals.

Noticed on the back-up drive that it's keeping 2 versions of the full backup from different dates and b1 / b2 incrementals, so it's effectively keeping 2 complete backups, which is filling up my external drive a lot quicker!

Is this correct? I'd assumed that each backup cycle it would overwrite the full backup and start again.

thanks
Richard

With your settings of 1 full plus 5 incrementals, your chain length is 6 files (1 full plus 5 inc).
Keeping 2 recent version chains indicates you are keeping 2 chains of 6 files each or keeping 12 files.

As the program will not delete old files until a new replacement full has been first created (backup#13 or B3 full),
actual deletion of the oldest chain of 6 files (s1-s6 of b1) will not occur until immediately after full b3 has been created.
So, you need to provide storage space for the normal kept 14 files plus provide additional short term storage space for the 3rd full backup.

If you do not have the required storage space, you would need to reduce the number of chains from 2 to 1.
A setting of "store 1 chain" would require space 1 chain of 6 files plus short term space (backup time) needed for the replacement full before automatic deletion will occur.

As making changes to an existing task is not predictable, if a change is needed, my recommendation would stop using the existing task
and create a new task with 1+5 inc and the "store 1 chain" setting. If a settng of 1 still requires too much space, some additional user actions would be needed to make the deletion occur before (rather than after) the full replacement is created.
