ATI2015 - How is cloning of two PCs to one external Drive possible

Thread needs solution

Hey Folks,

need some help:

I have to PCs each with one harddrive and each with two partitions (C:=Root/Windows and D:=Data).

I want to use the ATI Clone function.

Problem:
If I clone one PC on the external drive it makes there two new images of C: and D: called C: and D:

But now I am unsure, when I clone the second PC to that same external drive will it overwrite the present C: and D: partition from the prior already cloned PC?

Question:
How Can I clone to different PCs to one external Drive as I don´t want to use one external for one PC and an other external drive for the other PC.

Thanks in advance.

Chris

Are you sure you want to *clone*? A clone process produces a disk "exactly" like the originial disk, so you cannot clone 2 different disks on the same target. The second cloning operation would completely erase the results of the first one.

If you want to be able to recover your computers if their disk(s) die, you need a disk and partition backup. Each backup operation will create an *image* with all the information necessary to recovery each disk. Since an image is a big file, you can store several of them on the same backup destination. To restore an image, you would boot the computer on the recovery CD (make sure this works for your computers) and recover the image from there. The other benefit of imaging is that you can keep several versions (ie states) of each computer. This is useful if you have to set your computer back in time or recover individual deleted files.

Think of it this way, a clone operation has the same result as an imaging operation followed by a restore operation.
