Failed to Recover File or Folder...

Thread needs solution

I am getting this message when trying to recover individual files from an incremental backup. I have three incremental backups with Acronis True Image 2014 subsequent to a full backup and several incremental backups using Acronis True Image 11. Before I attempted the first incremental backup with the new version of True Image, I ran a validate on the earlier backups with it and no errors occurred.

Sorry but I can't get you. What's your problem then? Do you have trouble to recover your file? If so, I suppose acronis can help you. But I learned that with another tool, you can fully recover deleted excel spreadsheet if you have such a issue.

Try recovering using the same version CD which created the orignal backup.

"Failed to Recover File or Folder..." errors when trying to recover individual files and folders are apparently due to bugs in True Image (in my case, it's WD Edition, build 5962; I also own a purchased copy, but it's an obsolete version.) Those errors do not mean you're doing something wrong, nor does they mean your backup is corrupted.

The workaround is to "mount" the desired partition in the .tib backup file as a Windows drive letter, and then copy what you need from it using Windows Explorer or any other Windows tool.

There are two equivalent approved ways to start the "Mount Wizard" to mount the partition:

Start -> All Programs -> Acronis -> True Image -> Tools and Utilities -> Mount Image

Or:

Open True Image and go to the Tools & Utilities page, scroll down to the bottom, and select the option near the bottom to "Mount Image"

Either approach will open the "Mount Wizard," like this:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Acronis\TrueImageHome\TrueImageTools.exe" /mount_image

Use it to find the backup (.tib) file, click on it to select it, then click "Drive letter" (on the left) and deselect all partitions except the one you're interested in. Then click "Proceed" to mount the partition with a Windows drive letter.

At that point, the contents of your backup are is directly accessible via a Windows drive letter.

When you're done copying the files from the backup, unmount the image.

Open True Image and go to the Tools & Utilities page, scroll down to the bottom, and select the option near the bottom to "Unmount Image."

Alternately, you're supposed to be able to right-click the mounted drive letter in Windows' "Computer" or "This PC" folder, and select "Unmount," but that option is missing on mine.

Or you can run the unmount process directly:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Acronis\TrueImageHome\TrueImageTools.exe" /unmount_image
(You can also make a shortcut to do that -- that's what I did.)
