Unable to perform Recovery to USB connected Drive
Hi everyone,
I have a big Problem with a Backup i recently pulled from a costumers pc.
The Backup Job worked just fine and the validation of the backup says that it´s allright.
I made a full diks backup with all partiotions on it so that i could recover the whole machine.
Data is not really an issue because there´s a client server based application running n the machine so no data is storde.
now i tried to recover the backup to a different HDD (just to check basically) and it doesn´t work.
I Boot from Rescue Media Acronis 2015 Build 6525 and select recovery.
I then select the Backup (which is stored on a usb drive) and select to recover all volumes found.
On the screen where i can pick the destination the usb connected hdd is listed but i cannot choose it.
I already tried doing the same from Windows 8.1 installation of acronis and got to the same result.
Dirve is listed but when i choose to recover to it acronis tells me that recovery tot hat location is not possible (without any reasons).
I would be very happy if someone could help me with that issue!!
thank you!

But in this case it is not about booting from the usb Drive but just do the recory while connected via usb.
in this case i want to prepare a bunch of HDD´s in the office using my laptop...
This was absolutely no problem in earlier versions and i always did it that way...
so now with the new version i have to open up a pc and connect the HDD directly to SATA in order to make it work???
is there any way to go around that limitation?? because this is kind of the main thing we use.....preparing hdd with a laptop without the need to dig into hardware..... just unplug the satatousb bridge and do the next.....

I must apologize, I totally misunderstood your situation. You mention that you are using a bridge to connect the drives, would this be a hub? USB 3.0 or 2.0? The use of hubs is hit and miss, some work others will not. USB 3.0 has been problematic as well. Do you have more than 1 USB port on your laptop? If so you should try to attach the drives directly to the multiple ports on the laptop and if possible use USB 2.0 instead of 3.0 ports.

Hi,
no apology needed i´m glad someone responds in a quick way! :-)
I already tried it on 2 different laptops on all available USB-Ports (running both usb2.0 and 3.0) und using two different USB to Sata Bridges.
Recovering when built into a computer and connected directly via SATA works just fine.
No wi thought about maybe using eSATA in the future. Any experience with that??
Thanks again for your help!

Well, I have never used e-sata connection so cannot comment on that. I will say that I do see an increase in problems reported for those using USB and so far I only know of the solutions I already mentioned as possibilities for success. I have a suspicion that USB ports under Win 8 and the newer laptops on the market are being powered off and thus become unavailable after a very brief timeout. I have not investigated this but I suspect it might be the root of these USB issues. Have you tried setting up the recovery in the app to the point where choosing the destination disk is the next step and at that point attaching the USB connection, wait about 30 seconds and then proceed with the destination choice? Would be interesting to see if the drive would become available at that point. Would also lend some credibility or discredit my suspicions as well.
Wish I could be of more help.
